Really highly rate the food - my husband and I ate lunch here and both thought it was exceptionally good. Home made, fresh and delicious!

We wanted a cooked breakfast as a treat & this place was simply awful. Tiny tables are rammed far too close & seating is uncomfortable. For £7.50, I got one tiny sausage which wasn't cooked properly, two teensy rashers of streaky bacon & a poached egg, on two tiny pieces of toasted French bread. When I told the owner the... More

Situated on Beach Street Deal very near the Royal Hotel. The Black Douglas is a small but cosy coffee shop which serves meals. The interior has an old wood burner fireplace in the corner with a mix and match off wooden tables and chairs. Old fashioned pictures decorate the walls. Good meals and drinks made from locally sauced ingredients. The... More

I'd been to the Black Douglas before and experienced a bit of a slow service, but generally it was ok. However, on last visit it couldn't have been worse. The service was ridiculously slow, lacklustre, and the woman serving, who we can only presume was the owner, was practically wearing her pyjamas to serve in! She quite clearly didn't value... More

We had a wonderful brunch in this well situated cafe just opposite the beach. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we loved the eclectic furniture, the papers, the excellent coffee. The food is sourced locally and is delicious - I had an excellent Egg Benedict and my friends had a very tasty full English breakfast. The seating area is... More

First impressions were of an eclectic non-chain interesting independent place but much as we would like to love it it was sadly just messy and a bit dirty. Very broad clientele- a couple straight out of Made in Chelsea, a family with young kids, a older man who seemed to live there? and a local singer-songwriter putting the final touches... More

Unique place for a coffee opposite the sea front with nice home cooked cakes. Well worth a visit if looking for somewhere different to the chain cafes.

One of the tastiest full English breakfasts we've ever had - little pricey but worth it for the taste. Nice but cramped seating area, papers on offer, and right on the seafront.

The food is OK, if a little restricted in range, but the service is woeful. We waited more than 45 mins for scrambled eggs on toast. It only arrived at all because I said we were leaving. Others were still waiting. It wasn't even busy! Unfortunately it shows all the signs of a vanity business set up for the egos... More
