Had dinner here over a year ago and loved it. Returned here last Thursday evening with friends and found it still excellent. Service was superb. Recommend the duck which was presented in two ways, Loved the calves liver and the battered fish. Would totally recommend...More

We were last here about 8 years ago - we only come for special occasions with a very old friend who lives locally. In view of the food we may come more frequently in future. The restaurant sensibly ensures that arrivals are staggered so that...More

We have eaten at The Bell many times over the years, both lunches and dinners, as a couple and in groups. We have tried other places within a 20-30 mile radius, but always end up back at The Bell, because there is nowhere better. Other...More

Was a very busy Monday night but service was excellent. Ordered scallops and mackerel for starters. Portions were minuscule and I believe scallops were frozen. For nigh on £10 they should at least be fresh including roes. Saying that very palatable. Mains were cottage pie...More

This is the third time we stayed here (this year!) and it did not disappoint! I planned the trip for my boyfriends birthday and they helped with little added extras with regards to a birthday dessert etc too when eating in the Ostlers. On this...More

There is a decent car park to the rear which can fill up at peak periods ie weekend. There is street parking at the front.

I highly doubt it. As already mentioned, pub is in centre of tiny quiet village and we have stayed overnight many times and have never heard of anything like that.

Description
The Bell Inn, set in the lovely historic village of Horndon on the Hill, is a 15th Century Coaching Inn run by the same family for over 75 years. The two busy bars have the warm, friendly atmosphere of a 'proper' pub. There's an open fire, numerous ales on hand pump and a top-class wine by the glass list. The menu changes daily, using seasonal and local produce where possible. Upstairs, and in the Georgian properties next door but one, are 27 individually styled bedrooms featuring both modern and period twists that remain sympathetic to the beautiful buildings in which they reside. The Bell is featured in all the 'serious' guides and has won numerous industry awards including being recommended in The Times Cool Hotel Guide 2014 and The Sunday Times Food List as one of the 10 best gastropubs in the UK.
