Spontaneous decision to visit and expected spare table to be a problem but not so. Dining with vegetarian partner and limited choice further undermined by unavailability of the asparagus risotto due to no rice in the kitchen. Veg lasagne the dependable alternative which was ,well, dependable. Decent price being offered on the Cod & Chips (along with tea & bread)... More

From the minute our party of 6 arrived staff were attentive, polite and friendly. The pub was busy with a vibtant atmosphere. Although we had a delay in our starters, staff acknowledged this and appologised. The food was plentiful and of a high quality for 'pub food'. We all had a lovely evening, a great meal and a warm welcome... More

My boyfriend and I came here for my birthday meal in February after hearing good things from friends. It was a saturday night and we had pre-booked; when we arrived there were only 4 other tables occupied. The family who came in just before us where seated at the table that was reserved for us and we were told we... More

I was tempted to give this place no stars, but that would be unfair for the staff, they were polite and friendly. 4 adults, 2 children, The adult portions were no different to the children's portions, paltry to say the least for adults. One child had chicken it was a piece of scrag chicken breast, the other had pork, a... More

Country Pub serving great food! Maybe it's the warm northern welcome, but that would be too obvious, or perhaps it's the curiously eclectic mix of the ancient and contemporary. It probably has a lot to do with the food, and the beer... Whatever it is that makes the Blacksmiths Arms such a favourite with it's regulars, you need to come and experience it first hand. For weddings, birthday parties, special occasions and corporate events:- Ask about our beautiful giant Nordic Tipis and our canvas marquee which can be hired for weddings either in our own garden or we can transport and rebuild them in a location of your choice within a 2 hour radius of Darlington. Suitable for 40 to 250 people. For a party with a difference why not book our newly re-furbished Anvil room, perfect for a private party of 10 - 30.
