I absolutely love how homey and lonely this restaurant is!! We had amazing service (from Katie) and absolutely loved the food too!! One of my favorite things about this place other than the service is the ability to watch the chef make your food!
We had a late lunch here. Diner was not crowded. All staff wore masks. It's all counter seating - three sections I think. Menu had a very good selection of burgers, subs, and salads. We had a bacon bleu cheese burger and gyro "burger "...packed full with traditional Greek accompaniments. Both were huge (even though we chose the smallest 1/4# portions.) All the burgers are also available in 1/3# and 1/2#. Can't imagine what would have happened to my diet if I'd chosen one of the larger options!. Our server was very friendly and accommodating - constantly replenishing our delicious iced tea and even giving us a couple of their signature cinnamon buns to take home with us. It is interesting that they have a liquor license here and a small selection of the basic brews and spirits. Otherwise the decor and the layout is unremarkable but that is not what its patrons expect. What they want is good food at a reasonable price - and they get it!More
The place caught our eye while we were shopping nearby.
It is located in downtown Delaware, very near the statue of President Hayes.
It has reportedly been operating at the same location since 1932.
There are no individual tables, just 3 large tables that will...seat about 12 guests each.
There were no empty seats when we got there (which we took as an endorsement from the locals), but we only had to wait for a few minutes before we were seated.
The server was friendly and very efficient.
The selections are fairly typical for most Diners.
The food, prices, and portion sizes were all good overall.
They claim to be famous for their cinnamon buns, but we didn't try them.
Overall, we would be happy to eat there again.More
I love greasy spoon diners and this place is one of our family’s favorite places to eat. The burgers here are very good and so are the fresh cut fries. My kids have had great (and large) omelets here, we love the giant cinnamon rolls,...and I have had pretty good pancakes here too (personal favorite was one with pumpkin cream cheese). The place doesn’t seat a ton of people but it is a great melting pot of people every time we go.More
Had breakfast here for the first time 50 years ago as an OWU freshman and they had been serving customers for nearly four decades before that!
The menu is varied classic diner comfort food - reasonably priced, adequately portioned, and straight forward preparations. No tables...or booths here. The interior reflects its depression era origins with u-shaped counters and backless stools (in recent years a few street tables have been added when weather permits). The service is typically friendly and attentive. Unlike most of the diners in nearby Columbus which close in the afternoon the HID opens early (6:00 a.m.) and closes late (10:00 pm) with 24/7 service on weekends.
On my most recent visit had a satisfying Ruben omelet. Yum. Can't imagine an HID breakfast without ordering the cinnamon roll. I like mine grilled and find it satisfies the sweet craving for two of us. I confess in all the years I've come here I've never tried any of the lunch/dinner items.
My Delaware breakfast go to and a must for Triple D fans.More
