It's been a while since I came here, but decided to recently. The greeting was polite and welcoming. Good choice of wines and the menu was short but suitable for everyone. Please note: If there is a terrific choice on a menu you can almost guarantee it's NOT freshly made and cooked. I had the beef, and asked for separate... More

Six of us plus baby in carry cot booked for Sunday lunch today. Lovely characterful pub with open coal fire and comfortable seating. Charming attentive waitresses, a lovely table in the conservatory area and excellent food over three courses after which we retired to the bar area for teas & coffees. Lovely food, good value for money and a fine... More

Delicious Sunday roast - the beef was fantastic and the sticky toffee pudding was rich and delicious. Highly recommended. Jem was a wonderful publican - friendly and welcoming.

Visited here recently on a friends recommendation. Lovely pub with friendly, polite staff. The Sunday lunch was delicious, the roast beef cooked perfectly and puddings of the highest quality. Will definitely return again.

Visited for mid week lunch with friends and ate in the cosy bar rather than the larger restaurant. We had excellent fish and chips and Onion Tart Tatin. The owner was friendly and welcoming with excellent service. They had an offer of two classic main courses for £20 which was very good value for the quality of food served. The... More

We visited here for Sunday lunch. It was very quiet when we arrived but the staff were very welcoming as were the two log fires in the bar area. The lunch was good value for money and very enjoyable-good quality, well cooked food. The dining room filled up nicely whilst we were eating. Definitely worth a visit even though it... More

Visited here following a day out in Thirsk and I was impressed on the whole. The service was decent and polite throughout and it was good that I was called by my name during my visit. The interior was welcoming and comfortable. Really enjoyed the food and the most impressive course was the main of tenderloin of pork with celeriac... More

Went for lunch with my brothers on new years day. Had difficulty deciding what to have as the entire menu sounded delicious. Between all of us, we had almost all the options. Was not disappointed when the lunch arrived. If Carlesberg made lunches, they would only have to clone the food from here! It was absolutely delicious. What made the... More
