Whilst having an enjoyable sunny day out in Castleton we decided to find somewhere to eat and quench our thurst. We didn't go looking for a particular place but stumbled across by accident The George inn. Sitting outside around the back of the premises we...ordered two drinks which arrived very promptly. We ordered a large sharing plate of Nachos topped with Cheese and sauce with Jalapeños with a £4.00 extra portion of pulled pork. 25 minutes later the food finally arrived. No pork so i quizzed the waitress who promptly went to see the chef. After 5 minutes she came over to me to inform me it was on my plate. My immediate responce was where on this plate is the pork i payed for. The waitress just said the chef assured me he put it on. I didnt want to make a scene so just said ok then leave it at that. Very disappointed 😥 and definitely will not return avoid is my advice.More

On the menu board it said good variation of gluden free food which was great. I am celiac so have too me very careful. Looking at the menu there wasn't many gluden free options so disappointed. We waited for 20 minutes for our meal while...everyone seen to be getting there's sooner. When the meal came for 2 the plate was small we had two cold drinks not alcohol and the bill came to £18 Rubbish service will try somewhere elseMore

Called in for a drink on a hot summer’s day - were seated in a very clean and welcoming, professionally laid out, COVID compliant beer garden with a view. Service is very efficient and friendly. Nice.

Didn’t even get to the point of trying the food - was told via the phone that they were too busy to have a 60 second conversation to take a booking and that I should call back the following morning. Sent them an email as...an interim step and was told, via return email within the hour or so rather sternly that my perception that it was strange of having someone answer the call only to be then told I needed to call back was wrong and continued to moan to me about having staff off due to covid pings and that they couldn’t take my booking anyway as were only accepting bookings of 6. Lesson learned / go elsewhere in Castleton because they seem to think they’re better off having staff responding to emails and moaning about lack of staff to serve guests than serving guests.More

Well that didn’t take long after you threaten too. Well done for your review but that’s not how it went. Being asked to phone the following morning when you call at 7:20pm during a busy evening service wasn’t too much too ask. To be then...More

Stopped off for lunch today, weather very hot. Very impressed with the manager. Staff were very efficient with their wireless ordering system. Tables were promptly turned around for the next cover. Food was very well presented and really tasty. Best place in Castleton

On arrival we waited a short time due to the popularity of the beer garden. Staff were very friendly and attentive and soon found us a table. Drinks and food served quickly and with a smile from all of the staff. You can see why...this place is so popular because it ticks all of the boxes. Dog friendly and people friendly. Wainwright’s bitter served perfectly and just lovely altogether a nice summers evening. Highly recommend to any visitors in Castleton!More

This was a busy busy outdoor seated pub working hard to keep everyone fed and watered on a busy weekend, and they did very well. Double rounds and baskets of hot chips were our choice and they were really hot and crispy chips. The beer...was brilliant and the ambience great. A visit on a less frenetic day is now planned. A BIG thankyou to some friendly and hardworking team members at the George in Castleton.More

Castleton is quite touristy, so I wasn't expecting much from this website's recommendation. But it was pretty good. Lots of tables outside (on concrete, not grass but I'd been walking on grass all morning), easy to load up a menu and order, and everything turned...up quickly. The wild boar hot dog delivered and the chips were decent.More

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was considering the reasonable room rate (prices in derbyshire seem to have been hiked right up this summer). The room was small but adequate, as was the bathroom and shower. But the complimentary water and wine in...the room was a nice surprise and an unexpected touch. Breakfast was nice and very well cooked, and staff nice also. A big plus here is the raised patio for guests at the back (though seating is limited due to the current circumstances), where you can sit watching the sun go down, and admire the beautiful countryside. There is a covered and uncovered eating and drinking area at the back, so plenty of room for dogs (as long as they bring their owners). Castleton is a very pretty village with lots of history (going back to the ice age), and lots of walks and things to see and do for all ages.More

Staff are really friendly but unfortunately the food was not to our liking. Garlic bread that we had for a starter was lovely, the fish pie with the veg was dry and the wild boar hotdog was tasteless. We would go back for a drink...but not for food.More
