My boyfriend & I were staying in Ashbourne after a day in Alton Towers, staying in the Travel Lodge. We went across to the pub next to us for an evening meal and a few drinks but unfortunately there were no tables left for food....The nice lad speaking to us recommended The Bowling Green and said its not far away so we gave it a go. We drove up there and kept commenting how nice the area is, very peaceful and pretty (total opposite to where we live in skegness lol) On arrival we were seated by very polite and smiling staff which is always a nice start. The lady that took our order was very helpful, nothing was too much for her even though they were clearly busy and she gave some brilliant recommendations. We ordered starters, mains and drinks and absolutely loved every bit of it! I had garlic bread for starter and my partner had the black pudding with haggis then we both had steak with extras and we enjoyed every single bit of it, it was delicious! We were so pleased the other place was full, if we are ever back in the area we will 100% be coming back to The Bowling GreenMore

We drove past this place a few times and didn’t even notice it. When we started looking for dog friendly pub food this came up too. We parked opposite and from the outside the pub looks like a town centre pub. Go in and the...staff are super friendly and accommodating. Absolutely stunning food, I had steak and my husband and had lamb shank. Cooked to perfection and delicious. Definitely recommend this place as the food was the best we’ve had in the area.More

Highly recommend The Bowling Green. We enjoyed our meal so much that we booked a table for the very next day (We are on holiday so why not) The portion sizes were perfect and everything we ordered was lovely. Thank you to the lovely staff...and chefs!More

Great little find up the hill in Ashbourne. Really friendly staff, great service. Garlic pizza bread was excellent and moreish. We had five different cuts of steak all cooked different ways and all were exactly right. Very tasty food all round, and without breaking the...bank. Would definitely recommend.More

We ate here whilst away for the weekend staying at Landal Sandybrook about a mile up the road. The steaks were amazing and the service was great too. Definitely recommend booking as people were being turned away.

My wife and I visited on a Tuesday whilst on holiday and both had the pizzas. They were very rustic and quite obviously freshly made. We so enjoyed our visit we booked again for the Thursday. My wife had a different pizza and I had...the beef and ale pie with dauphinois potato’s with mixed vegetables. It looked quite ordinary but it tasted great. We followed it with a lovely apple crumble and custard.More

We had a meal on a Friday (early evening - 5.30) whilst we were on holiday in Derbyshire. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was superb. We all chose pizza which was absolutely delicious. Our daughter chose from the children’s menu. Even though...it was very busy our food arrived quickly and was piping hot. The desserts were also very tasty. Our only sadness is that we don’t live nearer so that we can visit again to choose from the extensive menu. We will definitely make another booking if we ever come to Derbyshire again.More

Loved the steaks we ordered here, very tasty and good value and their Covid measures are all good. Would say that when we visited we were seated just in front of the bar on a table for two and it was very noisy with bigger...tables near to it. In future I would ask for a table at the back or in the rear courtyard outside if the weather is good. Parking for here is tight - their car park is actually across the road and on a busy evening it can be difficult to get a parking spot. Fine for locals who know where else to park but not when you’re here on holidays!More

What hasn't been said about this restaurant/pub already? The glowing reviews you read are all justified as the food and service is impeccable. For a Pub just a quick drive from the Peak District National Park, it is surprisingly quiet and calm. This does not...however describe the food, which is absolutely excellent, coupled with impeccable service and ample seating both inside and out. The Lamb Shank I ordered fell off the bone and the scallion mash oozed with buttery goodness and was silky smooth, arguably some of the best Lamb I have ever tried. In short, go for the food and stay for the friendly and warm service!More

Really lively staff. Very accommodating and happy to help. Food was really good and couldn’t have asked for more from our first meal out in almost a year! Ribs and wings were really nice, pizzas went down well and puddings were very tasty. Overall a...brilliant meal.More

We went there with a GF friend and she had a fab steak. Just couldn’t have onion rings but they recommended a GF sauce for it.
