This place I found only good for special occasions. As it bit too expensive but you get what you really paid for. I will be visiting soon in another occasion.

My husband took me for a lovely pre-Christmas dinner here on the 23rd December as we were holidaying in the U.K. We live in Denmark and had been debating about the quality of restaurants in both countries and with the Artichoke my husband wanted to prove that there are some great restaurants in the U.K. as well. And the artichoke... More

After reading excellent reviews, I booked a table for my girlfriend and I as a surprise birthday treat. The booking was made back in September for January. The three month wait was well worth it! I have never been to a fine dining establishment before so this was an entirely new experience for us both. From the moment we stepped... More

We have eaten a number of times at the Artichoke over a period of many years and have always enjoyed the experience. However, our last trip was a disappointment, especially as we had two guests who we were treating to what we thought would be an excellent dining experience. Firstly, our table, booked for 9.00 pm, was not ready when... More

Arrived to a warm welcome in a restaurant we have visited numerous times. Unfortunately we were then led up a set of steps to a separate dining room with absolutely no atmosphere ( in complete contrast to the main downstairs dining area ). The room is in fact advertised as a private dining room suitable for groups. This sullied the... More

Our third visit to artichoke and definitely the best. The food is always excellent, however this time the table was perfect which helped the atmosphere - if you can get in the main dining room downstairs it is definitely better than upstairs, although not too near the front door ! In terms of food we did the 3 course a... More

went for lunch the other day and when we were shown to a table upstairs we were very disappointed. Soulless room. Meal excellent as always just a pity about the room. Must check next time as wouldn't bother, spoils a wonderful experience.

Description
An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.
