I've missed The Artichoke as I have been out of the country quite a bit this year. However, today were were greeted like old friends. We were there for a tasting lunch with an accompanying wine flight and it certainly lived up to expectations. The menu is about to change for the Christmas season so there really is no point... This superb restaurant deserves a Michelin star. Great food, great service. Our lunch today was beautifully presented and served. Good value and thourghly enjoyable experience. Best restaurant in the are without a doubt. One criticism. Don't accept a table near the door. It was freezing when opened. Otherwise cannot wait to return, Melvyn Chorleywood

We came here for my 30th birthday and had a lovey, unique experience. The staff were very attentive and the ambience was very relaxed and sophisticated. We sat near the kitchen so was interesting to watch the chefs at work. We had the 3 course menu and enjoyed all courses. It was a nice touch to get surprise courses in... More

The Artichoke provides top quality fine dining in a lovely restored building in Amersham Old Town. The dishes are beautifully presented and taste good too. The artichoke hearts starter was excellent. The main dishes were good too especially the lamb. The beef dish was tasty but the portion of steak was quite small. Excellent desserts and cheeses. Service is professional... More

Celebrating a special birthday. Had a lunchtime taster menu on a Saturday, we arrived at 12.30 and staggered out at three. Each course was presented well, and we also had wines to match each course. At no time did we feel rushed. It was expensive but for what we had and the experience was well worth it for a special... More

A delightful restaurant with flair and style. Service is impeccable and food is beautifully cooked and presented. Set menu was well balanced and the soup and fish especially worthy of mention. As is often the case in such a calibre restaurant we were spoiled by the excellent amuse bouche, pre dessert and petits fours. A delightful find and we hope... More

My husband and I went there for the first time for my birthday. It was a Tuesday and therefore not difficult to book and not too crowded. The menu looked interesting and the food was indeed exceptional. Beautifully presented, artistic food that tasted really good. We loved the attention to detail, with delicate fresh bread, amuse bouche, pre-dessert and petit... More

Don't misunderstand me. This is an excellent restaurant so you do expect exceptional menus. The set lunch menu is certainly not exceptional and is, in fact, disappointing. £28 for three courses is not a bad price but you only have an "either/or" choice for each course. For her starter my wife chose the white onion and cider soup. She liked... More

We visited The Artichoke for the first time. We had a fantastic meal with superb service. We were treated to some extra starters and desserts to try. Every dish was a masterpiece. This restaurant is the best in the the area, Well done to the team. We will most definitely be back.

Description
An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.
