Dined here tonight with another couple and although the ambience was nice, we found it a bit pretentious, at times unfriendly, and pretty expensive considering that it we mainly ate charcuterie. I personally was annoyed at how the table was constantly being cleared while we...were still eating. I was eating bread and cheese from a small plate and had already asked the server to leave it when it was suddenly whipped away before I had a chance to protest. I guess they were perhaps ready to close and wanted to clear up. With all the choices in Ajijic, I don’t think we will be back.More

WOW, 3 years and finally we get a review with less than 5 stars .. I can state for certainty that we do not clear plates to get people to leave .. closing time means we do not let more people in. It has always...More

Valentine’s Day celebration at the fabulous wine bar, Chez Characate! The owners worked very hard to make this an unforgettable evening. From the moment we arrived, we were pampered. Handed a fresh rose, seated and offered imported sparkling water. The candles were lit and the...plates and glasses began arriving. They brought out the best of everything: crisp linens, spotless crystal, beautiful china, polished silver! Every course was explained to us along with details on the accompanying wines. Very attentive service in beautiful surroundings. It was a wonderful evening!More

Had valentine day dinner. Could not have been better. The food, the wine, the service, the pacing- absolutely perfect. Sorry that we won’t be here long enough to go back.

I visit Ajijic at least twice a year and an evening at Charracate is one of the things I look most forward to. I recently dined with friends and family and am continued to be amazed at the exquisite food, the magical atmosphere, and most...of all the charming staff. The tapas style dining paired with the wine list make for an unforgettable experience. My favorites? The escargot, extra garlic of course, and the arugula salad. It's always hard to bring the evening to an end at Chez Charracate because Tom, Ricardo and Pablo create such an enchanting experience, you just don't want it to be over!More

My husband and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary at Chez Charracate and we were treated to the most delectable dining experience. The ambiance was reminiscent of a charming French bistro, the service was impeccable, and the food and wine pairings a gastronomic treat. We...had fois gras with black cherry preserves, paired with a sweet red wine, and scallops with a black squid ink sauce. We finished the evening the evening with chocolate truffles. The owners, Tom and Ricardo, have a created a dining experience in Ajijic that is one of a kind. As a part-time resident of this lakeside town, I will be a regular at this fine establishment.More

This restaurant has amazing service and food. It is really a wine bar with absolutely amazing cheese and small plate choices. Before I forget, get the cheese plates and (recommended wine) and the amazing iberica belotta ham - with the truffle sauce it’s crazy good....The owners, Roberto and Tom are amazing. Super friendly, not ostentatious, but they really know their wine. Pablo is also wonderful. Probably one of the more expensive places in Ajijic, but also one of the best. I will come back again and again and.... However, be forewarned, they have very limited openings!More

Another glorious evening sipping wonderful wine and enjoying delectable Spanish and French cheeses, escargot and jamón. Between the food, the service, the quality of food, and the choice of wines, Chez Charracate is the most magical little place in Ajijic.
