We visited Aji sushi for a family dinner this week. Having ordered take out previously, we decided to bring our family of six for a meal out. Upon arrival, we noticed that staff were quite busy balancing the pick up orders and bar area. We...waited quite some time and no one came to greet us as our party of 6 stood at the desk near the front door. We flagged down a server bringing food to a near by table and asked to be seated. When we were brought to our table the floor around the table was wet and water on one of the chairs. When we commented to the person seating us, she laughed and said it probably from the weather outside and don’t worry it’s not pee! No one wiped anything up. We switched to a dry chair from another table ourselves. My son who’s 10 commented quietly to me “so far this is a two-star restaurant mom.” He’s not very picky so this surprised me but I had to agree. Our dishes were brought and piled in the centre, not set for us. Water was not offered. Then our server disappeared. Again after some time we had to flag down someone to take our order. She obliged but in a rather abrupt demeanour, took our order. The food arrived in decent time. However the service lacked quite a bit. She placed all of our dishes as they weee ready at the end of our table (recall we are a table of six), and left, we had to make room and place all our dishes in the centre for sharing . Only one small dish of wasabi and ginger was placed in front of one person for all six of us for our entire meal. We ordered various sushi and a teriyaki dish. All were made fresh, thankfully. Unfortunately our server did not return to check on us. We had to again flag someone (anyone) to add to our order and again to pay our bill. Too bad really. The food was good but service and cleanliness was definitely lacking. We will not be dining here any time soon again.More
I have had this restaurant's food in the past and while not spectacular, it was a good choice in Milton where Japanese food is limited. Today, the food tasted "off". The miso soup had a weird flavour to it and the seaweed salad was oddly...tangy. Perhaps this is what put me off the other dishes.. I ate less than a quarter of what I ordered. No refund was offered or substitution of other dishes. It was also extremely annoying that a couple at the table by me were watching something on a cell phone that they had propped up against the wall. The volume was loud enough that everyone within a reasonable range could hear it. It was distracting, and quite frankly, the restaurant should have asked them to turn it off. I won't be back.More
Terrible food, rude service. If you want cheap and no service this is it, otherwise move on. Terrible experience Miso was like kitchen sink water, salty no taste. Sushi was ordinary mad e in bulk for the buffet. A very low end srip mall restaurant....Not recommended at allMore
We dined in-person as a family of four. I checked their website and the price said $24.99 per person for all you can eat on a Saturday. When we arrived, we were told that the price was now $34.99pp. The person acknowledged that the website...was last updated in 2018 and the “owner” had not yet updated it. We told him that that’s called “bait and switch”, but he ignored us. We could have walked out, but decided to stay reluctantly. Thankfully, the food was good. We had our dinner and while we were waiting to pay at 9:15pm, literally the entire staff except for the man (who seated and told us the price) walked out the front door including our waitress. We were left there in an empty restaurant. What a bizzarre experience!More
Their customer service is the worst (Milton location), if you visit their website they advertise a menu with 6 and 8 options ($14.95 and $24.95), however when you call they have no idea what you are talking about. The person answering can barely speak english...(Joe, supposedly name) and refuses to give the phone to someone else that can help you, he keeps asking about the item number in the menu but that information is non-existent, if you ask where can you get the menu the answer is no number, no order, I felt like I was in an episode of Seinfeld about the soup. My previous experience visiting the place was as frustrating as the first one, I should have learned from that.More
Visited with a family group of 12 for lunch. A good selection of maki rolls, nigiri, temaki, tempura and kitchen dishes. All freshly prepared. We had a large group, and several items were never delivered. Pencil on menu ordering system. I would definitely visit again.
Busy spot but were seated right away. Wait staff friendly and made sure we had everything we wanted. Large menu with options for anyone who is not really a sushi or sashimi lover. Clean, cheerful and great food
We love this place for take out and normally order the Maki Lover’s Tray for us and cucumber rolls and Udon noodles for the kids.
I have never experienced such terrible service at a resturant in my 23 years of living. We got there shortly after seven and waited about an hour for our first order. It was delivered to two different tables prior to them actually getting us our...order. We then sat waiting over 45 minutes for the bill prior to going up and demanding the bill. Do not think we will be returning after this trip.More
Compared to other sushi restaurants I've visited in the GTA, the food and ambience/decor at this one didn't stand out as anything special, it's solidly in the average zone, however we did have smiling and quite attentive staff, and prompt service, both of which left...a good impression. The tempura shrimp was tasty, and I also enjoyed the General Tao chicken (although it's not the best I've had) and the crab rolls and other crab items. My eating companion, who is a Toronto sushi snob, did not voice any complaints about any of the food, which is always a good sign. You order your food by marking off items on a sheet of paper, which is old school, but still is quite common in the smaller urban areas on the outskirts of the GTA and beyond. One thing I found distracting is a food preparer was chopping things VERY loudly for a while behind the counter, and since it's a small restaurant, it honestly made it seem like we were sitting in a construction zone featuring a small jackhammer while it lasted. They should do loud food prep behind a door in the actual kitchen itself. The bathroom is in an unusual location, accessed from in between the outer and inner front doors of the restaurant, down in the basement, and it's cold down there. It's not wheelchair or crutch accessible. Overall, if you just want to go get some sushi, and aren't looking for spectacular ambience and location, you'll do perfectly fine here. I appreciated the pleasant attentive staff.More
Yes I agree old looking restaurant with broken blinds! Went here with my son and family for his birthday. They enjoyed the sushi but i am not a sushi eater everything tastes the same and a little fishy from the seaweed. The chinese style dishes...of General Tao and sesame were OK but the teriyaki chicken was a 1/4 inch piece of chicken sliced very thin and very bland. The noodles were small and tasteless. The dishes are not served with any veggies just plain. The shrimp dumplings were good. Overall cost us about $200 for 6 adults and four children not inexpensive. I would not go back but I am also not a sushi eater.More
Having read other reviews for this place, I went in with an open mind and few expectations. Whenever reviews start off with statements like “Hands down, best ________________ in Milton”, you always have to take it with a grain of salt. Milton’s food scene is...rather bland, and it often doesn’t take much for a resto to claim the title of #1 title spot because often times there is not much to compare to. We (two adults, two children ages 4 and 6) went in on a Thursday afternoon for an early dinner. Price wise, Aji Sai is comparable to most AYCE places ($26.95 per adult and $9.95 per kid). When we arrived, we were seated immediately and brought water and tea. The decor of this place is almost laughable and is a mix of an early 1990s club and a garage sale, complete with a lot of black paint, mirrors and tacky light fixtures and Mismatched furniture. The bathrooms are in the basement and are dingy and dark and don’t look to have been cleaned or updated in years. In fact, the whole place is in desperate need of a make over. The restaurant itself is housed in a tiny strip plaza on Steeles in a low industrial section part of Milton with nothing really around. With a lot of the newer AYCE places, they use the tablet ordering system where patrons can see pictures of what they are ordering before electronically firing off their order to the kitchen. Aji Sai is old school and uses pencil and paper. Pre photo copied sheets are available on the table with all of their menu items and all you need to do is tick off the things you want. Waitress is pretty good about coming by the table to pick up the completed sheets and put in your order and the food arrives at the table in a flurry seemingly all at once. Food is decent but nowhere close to the best I’ve ever had. There was nothing really that stood out and set this restaurant a part from any other AYCE, granted I do believe it is only one out of three AYCE places in Milton. Overall, very average and decent gut fill if you are merely looking for something when you’re feeling Hangry but don’t want fast food.More
We were here to celebrate the birthday of a family member.Their lunch menu is of decent value with an ordering system that still uses a paper menu where you just check or tick off what you would like from the list.It is not yet on...an Ipad ordering system that is now being used in other sushi restaurants. We came for lunch on a Saturday and the place was not busy so service was fast. Sometimes we don't have to put an order on the paper menu anymore we just tell the waiter if we want additional items on the menu.I didn't particularly like the way they make and the taste of their sushi but its passable.Likewise we ordered their Deep fried Tofu which is one of my favourites but their Tofu is not crispy and not fried well. The only item we ordered a lot of was their Shrimp Tempura. Limited dessert choices only choice between ice cream and pudding. Order their vanilla ice cream which tastes good. The place is not huge ,just average size and the washrooms are located at the basement immediately upon entry to the restaurant. Ample parking space in front of the restaurant is shared with other tenants of the rows of stores beside it.More
We have been to Aji Sai for many years. At the beginning, the food was very good. The quality of food has declined slowly throughout the years but they did add some new things at different times. certain waiters and waitresses are more approachable than...others. They did renovate the entrance part a few years ago. However, their price is cheaper than others in general, so I don't mind to go there for a quick bite once in a while.More
