Don't let the name fool ya!! We were skeptical to say the least to stop here because of the name. We found a menu in one of the local magazines that changed our minds. We decided to have a late lunch (lunch served till 3:00 p.m.). We got a window seat and the view is fantastic. They served the funniest... More

We went there in early March and the experience was just average. The hushpuppies were kind of thin and just ok. Crab Shack has much better hush puppies for example. I had a steak and it was ok. My wife had shrimp and flounder. She said the shrimp was good but the flounder tasted horrible. She barely ate it. Most... More

For years I have seen people wearing T-Shirts from this restaurant all over Raleigh and after receiving recommendations from family and a few friends decided to finally give this place a try. There was barely anyone in the restaurant which I expected being mid week, in the off season, on one of the coldest days of the year so that,... More

We enjoyed and returned twice. We had drinks and lunch. We stayed after and just hung out with no haste for us to stay and just chat. Met a local writer mr. Humphrey who was a fantastic conversationalist. All in all great experience. Also famous John Tunell was there to chat it up.

This is my go to restaurant when I am in the area. If you want fresh seafood just ask. Everyone has heard of farm to table but this is boat to table.

I made phone reservations, not realizing that this was off season , and the place could likely seat us anyway. My wife and I arrived; announced our reservation to the hostess. She , no doubt, wondered why. Before ordering, a nice lady wandered the dining room and checked satisfaction of customers. When she came to us, she must have sensed... More

I've been going to the Sanitary Restaurant since I was a young kid. A lot of history and famous people have dined there. I have fond memories of family meals there while we were on vacation. It's not gourmet food. If you are looking for fancy this isn't your place. Just good food and a good price, not cheap eats... More

After 3.5 years of living here we finally went to lunch here. The food was terrible. We ordered steamed clams. Small and griddy. Shrimp salad was bland and took forever. I'm pretty confused how these tshirts sell. We were treated well by the servers, and other staff.

The food there is exccellent and they don't scrimp on protions. The prices are abit on the high side, but fresh seafood is expensive. Some of the seafood was caught that day off shore and brought in. The staff is friendly and the tables, while close together, are roomy enought for 4 to seat without hitting each othes plates. There... More
