We ordered the $28 seafood platter and split it. Lots of food. The fish, oysters and shrimp were good as expected. The hushpuppys were outstanding! Now come the crab cakes [2] pan fried and over done. Crab has a delicate flavor to start with but this had way way too much salt - it had so much we could not... More

The food was fairly basic, lots of it. Don't know that I would go back though. It is on the water, so in summer it may be nice to sit out and eat.

This was not a planned stop, it was getting late, we were hungry and ready to rest. Found on trip advisor, called, and was helped by a very friendly person. Arrived and checked in at the restaurant, the food smelled great. We were given a choice of theme rooms and chose the New Orleans, Mardi Gras. The room was small,... More

We have come to this restaurant for many years on our way to the Outer Banks. This year we were so fortunate to meet the owner on the deck and enjoy a few moments of good conversation. As usual we had the Grouper- always delicious and cooked to perfection. We will be back!!

An enjoyable experience at Barry's! My wife and I decided to take a quick vacation south for Valentines Day this past weekend and were pleasantly surprised to find Barry's a most hospitable destination. The restaurant served a special that included delicious Prime Rib with service that was top notch with friendly faces everywhere. A band showed up later in the... More

It was pouring rain when our GPS directed us to this motel/restaurant. Check-in was easy & the rates were fair - total for 1 night was $85.25. The restaurant looks like a biker bar on the left end of the building. The motel units extend out from the right. It's old but well maintained but minimal in updates. There's a... More

We had the pleasant surprise of finding Barry Nelms' Walnut Island Restaurant on our way home from the Outer Banks of NC! We had eaten there almost 15 yrs ago before moving to Florida and we were hoping that he still had the restaurant going. YES!!! The food was excellent, the hosts (Barry & Donna Nelms) perfect and the view... More

Never again!! The food was mediocre the steak was doused with Montreal steak seasoning, the BBQ was a mouthful of vinegar. Now let's talk about the room 12x12 over priced, vomit stains on the floor, bed sank all the way to the floor and NO security lock. No batteries for the remote and since the restaurant bar was closed we... More
