50'S & 60's Diner serving gourmet hamburgers, hot dogs, soups, salads and other great American dishes. Our restaurant also includes an old-fashioned soda fountain featuring hand dipped ice cream sundaes and hand-made milkshakes. Our building served as a car dealership in the 40's, 50's and 60's. A real treat each time I visit the Franklin area The King burger is our favorite. And the sweet patato fries are areal delight. They re prepared on site. Not frozen.
Have always had polite and friendly servers
We ate here 2 times during our recent trip to Franklin, NC. As someone who is still Covid cautious, I was happy to see the workers wearing masks and that the tables were spaced nicely. I enjoyed the Teriyaki Burger with crinkle cut fries, and...my husband loved his burger called The King. The second time, I stuck with the Teriyaki Burger, and he had the Farmhouse Burger with a fried egg on top. Both were delish. This time we tried the onion rings. They were great.More
TA says the prices range from $5 to $15. Not happening here. 3 of us ate for $60 and I had a hotdog... We have eaten here a few times before the pandemic and this was out first trip back. Glad they survived. However, it...has definitely cost them in the food quality. Got a chili hotdog w/ Fries. Barely enough to eat which was ok considering the chili was close to burned and without substance. Was supposed to have onions. I'm still looking. The fries were slightly warm and tasted like they had been under a heat lamp for a while. The fried mozzarella sticks were the same as you get at a grocery store - only at the store, they are not $1.50 a stick... The Strawberry shake tasted like a chemical factory. You know that fake bitter strawberry taste? was runny too. The chicken tenders are again courtesy of "Chef in a Box" brand foods. Honestly, this was our first time that we had anything different. We ALWAYS ate the Rubin. However in spite of the fact that the waitress said: "dozens of people have complained that we do not have that on the menu anymore", she was right, it was no longer there. :( Not sure why if "dozens" are asking for something, and you were VERY good at it, why you do not have it? Good luck folks. Sorry, but you are no longer worth the trip over the mountain.More
This place was very good. The service was wonderful. We had 13 in our group. The menu has a wide variety of burgers. Everything everyone ordered was very good. They even have a menu for your dog. I highly recommend Motor Company Grill.
We stopped in for lunch during a recent covid-Saturday. We were immediately seated and we selected the bar - which is usually our first choice. The atmosphere is pseudo-diner as they have worked pretty hard to make it feel authentic - which is mostly does....The menu is super long with many good choices. They offer 21 different burgers (I counted) and one is $40+ and weighs three pounds. Yikes! I selected a boring chicken salad sandwich and waffle fries. Food arrived quickly. The chicken salad was obviously far from homemade as it had that flat taste of chicken salad prepared days ago by a food vendor and stored stone cold. The waffle fries were extra (too much?) crunchy.
We were excited to top off lunch with a real diner-made hot fudge sundae! Yeah. We could watch the production process and it was clear the fudge was not hot and the cook was struggling to get much out of the dispenser...He never said anything and merely placed the sundae's in front of us with barely a dribble of COLD fudge on them. We complained and someone else quickly confirmed the hot fudge was cold and she warmed up a huge helping for both of us. Way better!
I know I'm whining about small things - but a hot fudge sundae needs, well, you know, hot fudge! Overall - Just OK.More
I ate here on a recent trip to Franklin. I have been here one other time a few years ago. It was great a few years ago and still great today. The first time I ate here I had the Philly cheesesteak and fries. It...was good. My last trip I had the fried chicken sandwich and fries. It was really good. Everything I had there was fresh and hot. The atmosphere was wonderful, it looks like a soda shop inside , very nice to look at. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone!More
Whenever in Franklin at lunch we try to stop here. It's a Happy Days throwback with good burgers and fries. A wide variety of burgers and other sandwiches. Good service. Reasonable prices and cool atmosphere. What more can you ask?
One of only a couple restaurants open on Sunday morning, we decided to eat here because it was busy. It turned out to be a good decision. The food was great. I had the special...grilled chicken sandwich served with bacon and cheese sauce. So good!...The French fries are super. Husband had the bean burger and he also liked it. He ordered a side of Cole slaw which was great and I ordered a side of the Mac and cheese. It was so-so. I was hoping for old fashioned baked Mac and cheese and this was not that. Still good, but more like Mac and cheese with a wad of cheese heated on top. But, hey, all in all it was a great lunch and I’m sure we will be back! Worth the drive down from Bryson City.More
