The sound of the menu is way brought me in. Everything sounded original, fun and tasty. I met a few friends there and was excited to jump right in that menu. We ordered the pulled pork nachos for an app to share. The chips were either a tad old or had been popped under the heat lamp a little too... More

Squeezed between gritty, traditional sports bars on Durham's Main Street, not far from Duke University's East Campus, this higher end pub attracts profs, students, tech start-up entrepreneurs, Southern hipsters and the occasional boomer couple. People come for the energetic vibe, personable servers, superb sandwiches (try the awesome avocado or the scrumptious turkey sandwiches) but most of all the excellent selection... More

First time her and definitely enjoyed it. My wife had the mussels in a butter garlic soup with a salad I snuck a little taste of it and it was very good. I had a breadless hamburger with mushrooms and bacon and it was really good I asked for it rare and they honored my request and it was so... More

Upscale pub food located across from Brightleaf Square. Had the opportunity to sit outside on a beautiful night. Very interesting beer selections. I always love when I find Ballast Point! Different food options. I had the avocado sandwich which was really good. Several others had salads and my son had the tenderloin which was delicious. Only disappointment was that one... More

Visited this place with 2 friends that had been here before. Unfortunately, this time was not very good. Table was sat next to us 20 minutes after we arrived and their appetizer arrived before ours. Our server assured us it wasn't her fault, it was the kitchens. When someone from the table got up to get silverware and napkins, our... More

Everyone talks about burgers and there a few good places in Durham, but we sat at the bar at Federal and met some great folks and somehow the burger was even better. I like places where locals hang out and stop on their way home from work. The drinks were cold and the pour was solid. Their garlic fries are... More

Spent an enjoyable afternoon at Federal. Nice selection of entrees and fresh salads. Chose to sit outside in the sunshine, watching the pedicabs ride by. This restaurant is located in the Bright Leaf area, just a couple of blocks from Duke's East Campus. Pets were also welcome in the outdoor seating. Fairly extensive beer menu.

I had their outstanding classic hamburger, served with a heaping amount of roasted garlic-topped fries. Absolutely delicious. Two of my companions ordered the black bean sliders and raved about those as well.

So, I had heard and read about the tasty sandwiches and great sweets at Rose's Meat Market and Sweet Shop and that's where we headed for lunch. However, when we got there, we found out that they don't have tables. So, back in the car - and low and behold we found The Federal right around the corner. While not... More

Rats. Of all the wonderful places to eat in and around downtown Durham, I picked Federal. It was very average at best. I chose it because it was near my hotel, I was famished after a full day of walking all over town (for fun), and the front porch looked cozy and inviting and housed several happy-looking customers. It was... More
