We had a terrific meal here. I love the genuine Parisian bistro atmosphere. I had the beer salad and the Salmon Dijon with lentils which was just delicious. Good, friendly service in an attractive restaurant. This is a great asset for Durham. We will return soon.

Having been voted best of Durham the last couple of years as well as having a high rating on Trip Advisor, we had high expectations for a recent dinner there. While the restaurant is charming with a French bistro feeling, the food was lackluster and bland. The escargot lacked garlic. The sweetbreads were tasetless. The swordfish special ($30.00) lacked any... More

We went to Vin Rouge for my birthday, because I love French food, and I love French food for celebrations. Our meal started with a wonderful Riesling, not too sweet, very crisp. Our starter was soup. Mark had the Potato and Gruyere Soup, and I went with French Onion. The soups come in what look like smaller versions of tureens.... More

quiet, quaint and wonderful food. Took advantage of the fixed price menu. The appetizers were great, most entrees were above average and the dessert was tasty. One of the highlights was the outstanding cup of coffee with dessert. It was the icing on the cake. Looking forward to visiting again. Indoor and outdoor seating

We stayed in Durham overnight on a road trip south. We did not expect to get fine French food, yet there was Vin Rouge, listed on various websites. We ordered a la carte, and began with a restaurant made country pate. It had nice flavor. After that, we ordered sweetbreads and the appetizer special of the day, which happened to... More

We had high expectations for Vin Rouge after reading some of the glowing reviews, but we came away disappointed overall. The highlight of the meal was the complimentary bread with an olive oil/tapenade for dipping. Two of us had Escargots for appetizers; they were quite small, and the sauce could have used more garlic. The rest of us had oysters... More

We were in Durham for my birthday weekend and my husband asked me to choose a restaurant for dinner with our daughter and son-in-law. I chose Vin Rouge based on the Trip Advisor reviews, and I was glad I did (as were the others in my party). The dinner was so so delicious, and the service was excellent. While we... More

Reserved ahead but were given a table in ugly rear room with no atmosphere but we went at 6:30 for fixe price and had to be seated and order by then and were told we had to order RIGHT AWAY> No time to move. Huge salad - enough for 4 people - all lettuce, hanger steak that was terrible BUT... More

Coming home from a long week of flights, I asked my wife to pick a nice, romantic restaurant in Durham for our dinner. She certainly did not disappoint! It was a very wonderful venue for just what I needed-a quiet evening with her and to wind down. The wait staff was wonderful and very attentive. The menu was whatever I... More

I have been to this restaurant twice now, both while traveling to the area for work. What a gem! We shared mussels and frites on both visits, and they plump and flavorful, with plenty of bread to soak up the sauce. Yum!! We were early enough on the second visit to take advantage of their prix fix menu. I had... More
