Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was looking for a brunch venue and P&O was recommended by a more recent Duke grad. We parked in the wrong garage and had some trouble finding it but enjoyed strolling through the Tobacco Campus on a beautiful spring morning. I had been expecting...a sit down experience so was chagrined to find a counter in a shop. However the food was interesting and tasty. It was easy to find a picnic table outside.More

We went back three times and loved each sandwich. The person behind the counter taking orders was very friendly and courteous. The store includes wine for sale, books, games, puzzles, etc. I don’t think you could eat inside, but there were tables outside.

It's hard to compare their new location in the American Tobacco Campus to their old location in Bright Leaf since the new location is smaller and their focus seems to be retail as opposed to dine-in food. On our recent visit my wife ordered the...white bean spread, avocado and cucumber sandwich and enjoyed it. I'm sure they will expand their menu offerings and get comfortable over time. In the meantime, they have a wide selection of cookbooks, greeting cards, wines and gifts to peruse.More

An impressive variety of sandwiches. Quality of ingredients is high. Prices are not absurd. Not the friendliest staff in the world, but they are certainly polite. Have had three different sandwiches there. The food is good. They have an interesting 16 oz. Wisconsin chilled bottle...root beer called Sprecher; it's made with honey as the sweetener. Compliments their sandwiches well. Would recommend this place for, say, a small business meeting in-conference-room working lunch kind of thing due to the variety of items on the sandwich menu and how well they execute all of their offerings.More

P & O left their wonderful Duke St location. They are now in the American Tobacco Campus of Durham. Still have a great selection of cards, cookbooks, wine and other items of interest. As for being a restaurant- they recently started offering their original yummy...sandwiches for take out only. Also coffee drinks. There are many beautiful places to sit and enjoy outdoors. Not sure if or when they will return to their full menu including breakfast. Is the change a new business model, or a response to Covid. Time will tell.More

Was wanting to explore durham and this place was on my radar for lunch. It's a nice brunch spot, but man is it busy. Getting a table may be difficult here so maybe go earlier or later after rushes. Though the food does come out...very quickly. I got a sandwich and it was very good though it came with an onion jam that was dripping off and very sweet. I wish they'd put less on or put it on the side because it overpowered the rest of the meal. Their coleslaw was fine. But overall, a pretty good experience.More

Dropped in as this was rated high for breakfast in Durham. Very small portions and overpriced. $7.99 for a single tiny piece of overdone rye toast and avocado is ridiculous. Not worth the trip. Next time I’ll stick with my $3 pastry from Ninth Street...Bakery.More

Someone recommended the cheese biscuits and I am officially hooked. Nice and crispy on the outside. Always nice to eat on the outside patio.

Great food with many options. Coffee is delicious and the food is fresh. My favorite avocado toast of all time. The peanut butter, bacon, banana with honey was a piece of heaven. Love sitting outside. Overall on of my favorites for quick bites

Met some friends at this place when we were in Durham for a sporting event. The vibe is very homey and artsy. The line was long to order, usually a good sign -- this place is obviously very popular. I ordered a sandwich and frankly...was underwhelmed. The sandwich was rather bland, with few unique flavors. The turkey in the sandwich desperately needed some curing or something to add flavor.More

Great sandwiches in a nice downtown location. If you can’t find a sandwich at this sandwich shop then you must not like sandwiches. Can’t miss on the banana, bacon and peanut butter panini.

P & O has a wonderful, and somewhat different menu. They have some sandwiches which you just don't find other places. The food is delicious, as are all the great brewed coffees. Their candy selection is irresistible. And they have a selection of unique gifts...and different items for your home . My daughter loves to go there to have lunch and shop for her daughter. And, they have one of the best outdoor covered patios for eating and relaxing.More

You can always count on a great time and food. It is a totally reliable p[lace and you can also shop for interesting articles like specialty foods, books, wines a little bit of everything but it has a great selection of gems.

P&O - as the regulars call it - is one of our most favorite places for food, coffee, wine and gifts. And the porch is just a wonderful place to hang out for lunch or chat. And love the staff

We were looking around and this place was very cute. Great selection of things to buy, and nice "snacks" and coffee/tea. Good for a stop and a quick bite, and the other food that was being served looked very tasty. I recommend stopping here. Take...your time, look around, and get something to eat.More
