We stayed a short weekend but went twice for dinner. Could not stayed away from the fresh and warm rolls. Hard to pick between grilled trout or fettuccine shrimp scampi, soup was great, dessert even better and service was excellent.

We are breakfast here both mornings because it was included in the price of the room. Food was average.

No kidding, the rolls are served fresh from the oven and are perfect in every way. If you're one of those who usually leaves the bread alone- don't miss these. Well worth the indulgence. Our waitress (Courtney ) made us feel so welcome, very engaging and seemed genuinely happy to help us make good choices. I highly recommend the inn's... More

Each night's dinner at Balsam Mountain Inn is an adventure. Chef C. J. Rheum has a variety of nightly specials on the menu in addition to the regularly offered fare. Chef Rheum is not shy about adventuring with flavors and spices to create new dishes that are very pleasing to the palate. Vegetarian pastas, the fish and seafood dishes, the... More

We have either stayed at, or eaten at, the Balsam Mountain Inn each trip to Western North Carolina for the past five years. It is a lovely old hotel, and the environment begs you to slow down and enjoy the time without television or traffic. We look forward to each visit there, and will probably continue to take a nice... My husband and I ate breakfast and dinner at the inn and both meals were wonderful. The food was cooked when ordered and was fresh and delicious.

We 5 ordered different things from the limited Sunday lunch menu and everyone enjoyed without hesitation. The only ONLY issue was they ran short on chops which led a change to the Balsam burger which was delicious on a toasted bun as light as a feather. Even the green beans were delicious and the pork chip with brown sugar bacon... More

It may seem strange to praise sandwiches, but they were marvelous. They were prepared to perfection with the freshest and most flavorful ingredients. The dining porch is beautiful and the service was great. Plan to return for dinner soon.

During our 2 night stay at the BMI we enjoyed breakfast twice & dinner once. All of our meals exceeded our expectations, especially dinner! They offer a wide variety of beers & wine but the scallops & crab cakes were A-MAZING!! We also had fresh, hot bread, soup, salad & the chocolate hazelnut pie. Everything was wonderful, including our server... More

This was our third trip to the Balsam Mountain Inn and each has been wonderful. We sat at the window pictured above and watched a bunny munch on the grass for much of the hour and a half we were there. We both had trout almandine and it was scrumptious. The chocolate pie was equally good.
