I have to confess to being a curry snob so would tend not to ever have a curry except somewhere I know specialises. Tonight, throwing caution to the wind I went with the Iranian beef curry. What a great choice. It had clearly been cooked very slowly and had lot of layers of flavour. It was a big step up... More

A great pub next to the steam railway. A large selection of wine and beer with friendly staff. Been 3 times and it always seems busy. A visit will be worth it the good is great but the Curry is just magic, I have traveled the world and love Curry and the pub serves one of the best tasting choices... More

We were traveling from Bendigo to Melbourne decided to call on mobile to see if they could fit us in for lunch. We were told that they were busy but that would be ok. I order salt & pepper squid which I had enjoyed on a previous visit. However today it was over cooked, chips & salad served with it... More

This is our family local favourite. They always make room for us, and are friendly. Love the shared entrees - but they leave me not enough room for the huge main courses....!

Glad we booked in advance for Friday night dinner after driving from Melbourne. Our family ( older teen kids) shared calamari and house made bread ( thyme and honey sourdough) for starters- absolutely delicious. Our mains were all a cut above average - the Parma was better than usual- moist and tender chicken.Ribs were a different style, but delicious served... More

Our party of 14 celebrated a birthday here last Saturday night and had a good night overall. The good is the service and reasonable wine prices the bad is the food is not cheap and really only average at best, still its hugely popular which means that either the locals don,t know good food or its the best the town... Been here a few times and always enjoyed it. I like the food and they have a good wine selection. I think there are a few nights when they have specials and it can get busy.

Arrived Sunday night (Anzac weekend) and the pub was full, greeted by a friendly lady who asked us if we wanted to sit at the bar and she will let us know when a table is available. The barman was also friendly, enjoyed some drinks and was updated on our table, once a table was available we sat and ordered... More

The Railway Hotel is located in the historic township of Castlemaine within the goldfields area in central Victoria. The Hotel dates back to the mid 1800's and is one of a few surviving hotels from the bustling gold boom era. The Hotel is located adjacent to the historic working railway station which services the Melbourne to Bendigo line as well at the Steam Trains from both Maldon and Melbourne. The Hotel has a real vintage feel of a bygone era incorporating a locals bar, bistro and bar and outside verandah area. The "Railway" is a welcoming and inviting place for locals and travellers with an award winning chef preparing food sourced locally and a range of local beers and ciders on tap. Our spirit wall hosts an inviting range of imported whiskey and bourbon choices and our wine range supports the vineyards of our region.
