Excellent food and best local restaurant in Grand Baie

BEST restaurant in Grand Baie, Mauritius! Very nice atmosphere with live music and very friendly and proffessional staff. The food was excellent and possivle to pay with card. We have not had this good food at any other local restaurant in Grand Baie. The fish...was fresh and a big recommendation to take the crab soup for starter and lamb/seafood/crab curry for main dish!More

Feels like home and not just a business

Brilliant restaurant

We found this restaurant online and it had good reviews so we thought we would try it. We arrived slightly before opening time but they were kind enough to let us order and cook our meal. The food was delicious and the staff lovely and...friendly. We liked it so much that we decided to go back for lunch the next day. We forgot it was Sunday and when we arrived the restaurant was completely packed, but the made us a small table up and sat us down. Again the food was amazing. Big portions we ordered starters and mains the first time and couldn’t eat it all! All in all a fantastic little family run restaurant with great food at reasonable prices. 10/10 highly recommended.More

Great family meal out.

This is a hidden gem in Grand Baie! Our family of five managed to get a table here and the meal and atmosphere was fantastic. This restaurant appealed to us as there were a lot of locals eating here and the food looked great. Service...was very friendly and when we visited there was a trio of guitarists that really added to the overall experience. My son loved the crab soup and I had a seafood gratin that was presented in a beautiful shell. The banana flambé at the end was great theatre and tasted delicious. My husband also loved the rum shot offered at the end of the meal. Thank you it was our favourite restaurant!More

Tasty local food at very fair prices

Very well dining experience. Tasty local food at very fair prices. No haute cuisine for sure but a very good choice if wanting to get an overview about well-made local dishes. Excellent home-made rum creations. Washroom needs to be renovated!

Best cuisine

Authentic Mauritian Cuisine

Good restaurant. Warm welcome and nice atmosphere. The food was so good, tasty, well presented and value for money. Try this little gem in grand baie and u won't regret it.

Authentic and exceptional Mauritian restaurant

What a hidden gem. If you want authentic Mauritian food this restaurant will not disappoint. I’m an expat Mauritian back here for the first time in 20 years and here with my family for the first time. All our meals were exceptional. The service is...also first class. We had a variety of dishes, including the fish carpaccio, whole grilled fish, beef curry, creole soup, and prawn Rouigalle. Everything was cooked perfectly. Live entertainment from a 3 piece acoustic band was so fun. Best experience we’ve had so far on our holiday.More

Must try for that authentic creole experience

A must visit in Grand Baie - the food is simple, unpretentious and delicious - worth every penny and is so reasonable given that it is cooked so well - the chef knows how to season and cook fish perfectly The stand out for us...the the warmth and attention of the team - every interaction is full of genuine smiles and true hospitality - a real treat, little touches are delivered to the table and we really felt that guests are welcomed like family A memorable visit, we will be back again and again - Thank You to all at Rougaille Creole!More

So so

We were recommended this restaurant for traditional Mauritian food. It is far from a fine dining restaurant, but it was pleasant and the staff were nice. We just didn’t particularly enjoy the food. My prawns were not shelled and were submerged in a sauce so...were difficult to eat and the taste was just average. My partner chose fresh fish but questioned the freshness. I feel perhaps this is a tourist restaurant and the standard of food doesn’t really match the reputation, but it was very reasonably priced and I cannot complain about the service. So overall I rate this restaurant average.More

To the team at La Rougaille Creole: I was in your wonderful restaurant last week, tasted your amazing rum and came back to buy a bottle. I have got it safely back to Australia but forgot to ask you: how long do you leave it sealed, letting the fruits and spices flavour the rum? When I open it, should I decant it and discard the fruit? Thanks in anticipation of your advice. PS I'm just about to give you a 5 star review! Ann

Answer

Keep the rum in a cool place until you want to drink it. It should be ready to drink straight away if you want. Either eat the fruit or use it in deserts - don't throw it away.
