There is nothing as comfortable as the local pub or restaurant where u live. It's comfortable , friendly and you feel relaxed in your surroundings. I visited Rochester and was taken to Tap & Mallet by a colleague for drinks. What a great local. Everything I look for. Great staff and patrons. Very clean. Amazing beer selection. A definite must... I visited for the first time, after being told how great the place is. I was impressed by the openness of the floor plan and yet there were booths with high back to allow for privacy and conversation without yelling. The wait staff started with an interruption of our conversation to draw attention to her appearance. There was a bit... More

We needed a late lunch after a 6+ hour drive and knew that the Tap & Mallet was serving all day. We had a large salad, chicken tacos (3 of them) and a turkey Ruben. This is pub food, nothing special, but tasty and satisfying after a long day's travel. As usual, there are enough beers at the T&M to... More

Busy busy place on a friday early eve. Place was nice enough. People friendly. Good brew, the food on the other hand.... I ordered a Sesame Tempeh Ginger Salad. The description .."Bibb lettuce, pickled daikon radish, carrot, toasted almonds, honey crisp apple & seared tempeh tossed in a sweet sesame & ginger glaze." Sounds delice, right? What I got was... Our group came here for dinner after work. We had heard very good things about this place. The first problem was that I was served the wrong side dish, but I was ok with that. Next, my burger (ordered it cooked medium) came extremely rare in the middle. I brought it to the attention of our server, who apologized and... More

Went to the Tap and Mallet for the first time yesterday. My wife, son and I had a few beers and appetizers. The bar was friendly the food was very good and the beer selection was excellent. The service was great. Had a fantastic conversation with two elderly gentlemen that made the time fly by. I would definitely visit again.

Smoked salmon BLT was very good, aioli was perfect. Here for lunch on a work day so no beer sampled from an amazing list. Very nice wood and brick decor, simple and not overdone with bar kitsch. I must come back.

Nice pub with good menu pub and dining room seating and outdoor/street-side in good weather. Our server was attentive and checked on us constantly - mostly to assure us that the kitchen was also catering to a pre-wedding dinner in the full dining room. The menu is not huge and over promising, mostly favorites and locally sourced specials. Good (enormous)... More

Tap & Mallet seemed to be the place creating most buzz in our short visit to Rochester and it certainly delivered on the beer and food front. Atmosphere-wise, it was quiet, being a midweek night during college vacation, but it's easy to see how the place would be jumping on a more typical night. Great beer selection and very tasty... Description
The Tap & Mallet is owned by Joe McBane and Casey Walpert. Joe is from England, and has lived in the United States since 2000. He managed The Old Toad for the first 7 years he was in the country. Casey opened The Bug Jar on Monroe Avenue and currently owns Mex on Alexander Street.

We aim to be the best destination in Rochester for beer and pub food. We believe that having the best beer requires a balance between freshness and selection. We chose to limit our draft lines to 30 with the addition of 1 cask ale so that a fresh glass of beer can be guaranteed every time. The majority of our lines rotate so that there is always something new to try. Our inspiration for the menu comes from a love for food prepared from top quality fresh ingredients. Whether our guest wants dinner or just a snack they should always expect a range of flavors from around the world at an affordable price.

The atmosphere is that of a contemporary pub. It is comfortable and welcoming to all. There is soft lighting and music that doesn't overwhelm. We want people to feel relaxed and at home.

While we specialize in fine beers we understand that drinking beer is a truly enjoyable social past time. No one should ever feel bad about their choice of drink due to an elitist attitude. Many of our guests are interested in exploring new flavors and we are there to help and encourage them with their selections.
