They dont shoot for 'haute cuisine' and they hit the sweet spot for farm-to-table fare. Every time I go there I am pleasantly surprised with the preparation and the menu. It is one of our favorites in the area.

Three of us for dinner. The "rabbit three ways, a special entree," was excellent. Comprised of a combination of tenderloin, a haunch and a warm rabbit liver mousse, served with spaghetti squash. Branzino filet,on the regular menu, looked like a grilled small piece of bait....We all did double takes at the tiny portion. It was well prepared, but it was an appetizer pretending to be an entree, with a main course price. Third dish was also a special:an elaborately prepared large pork chop. It's preparation was so complex we asked the server 3 times to repeat the description until we gave up trying to figure out what he was saying, but it sounded good, and one of us ordered it. When the server asked how that person wanted it cooked, we thought he was kidding, especially when he suggested "medium rare?" Pork? How about cooking it through? The pork dish looked great on the plate. A big portion (in contrast to the mini branzino filet.) The first cut was made into it. Forget the server's ridiculous suggestion of "medium rare." It was bright red inside and COLD TO THE TOUCH. It went back to the kitchen for a real cooking. This experience was consistent for Flat Iron. Food is often terrific, but when the chef is off his game, it's disappointing. It's mystifying though, how three dishes ordered at the same time come out a) excellent (rabbit), b) silly small (branzino) and 3) undercooked (pork.) Good natured staff earn it 4 stars. Consistency is needed for 5.More

Took some friends there for a birthday celebration.... it was delicious! I can particularly recommend the BACON AND KIMCHI appetizer! Kind of a genius combination... it's a mild kimchi ... chunk of salty bacon.... take a bit of each, eat together.... OH MY! And my...duck cacciatore crepes with broccoli rabe and other good things were fantastic. This place delights again and again, for very reasonable prices! Oh, and did I mention that they were serving a yummy Stone Pale Ale??More

We went out of our way returning from upstate to revisit this wonderful restaurant. This time I had the duck prosciutto appetizer and the short rib special.... My wife had the skirt steak again because her first experience with it was just that great! My...duck appetizer was well crafted and very flavorful. The short rib was one of the best I've ever had. Paired with homemade mashed potatoes and an amazing fennel side, this dish was just absolutely perfect. Go to this restaurant. Eat their food. Make yummy noises. :-))More

This was our second trip to the Flatiron in the last eight months. The last time we visited I was coming down with a stomach bug (not from eating here) and could not enjoy the delicious steak meal I had ordered. When the meals arrived,...the servers were understanding and great about packing up our meals so we could get back to the comfort of our vacation rental, and have leftovers for another day. We fully enjoyed our return visit, this time in good health, and found the servers to be exceptional. The servers function as a tag team. It works fairly well. We noticed no miscommunications or mix-ups in our orders. This time I had their pan-fried bass, which was done perfectly, over broccoli rabe and fingerling potatoes. The fish was moist and the juices were caught by the vegetable below the fish slab. My companion had never had a duck burger before. She asked for it well done and it came out medium/medium well, but it was satisfactory. She told me she preferred it with no pink, but didn’t want to send it back. She had never had cracklings before, which were the fried pieces of duck skin which garnished the burger. She tasted one and passed on the rest. She removed the runny fried egg that topped the burger; she prefers fried eggs cooked through as well. We never heard of fried egg on a burger, but hey, she is willing to try anything once, twice if she likes it. Despite the new taste sensations, she was happy with her meal. We tried the hazelnut coffee cheesecake dessert, which was delicious. The air conditioning in the restaurant was either not working or they had it set way too high this August evening. It was quite hot inside and the crowd definitely amped the temperature up a few degrees. There was outdoor seating, but the humid August air with traffic passing just a few steps away was not our preference. This is not a place for a quiet, romantic dinner or a place to have a quiet conversation with a special date. It is very loud. There were lots of families with kids, and lots of large parties. The acoustics appear to amplify the sounds of everybody talking. There is, however, no TV monitor anywhere. You have to either converse with your partner or else rudely look at your cell phone.More

We all took steak frites or filet mignon with truffles fondue or au poivre sauce. Everything was delicious. Bravo. We will be back.
