The menu choices were interesting, well executed. Kudos to the Chef. The Veggie Burger was a Home Run, even for the hardened meat-lovers out there. Thanks for a Great Lunch. Front Staff needs to work on setting a friendlier tone. Being greeted from a podium is less than inviting. Remember, "You" the staff are the lucky ones, because "We" the... More

Louie's is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Seafood is amazing and the dishes never disappoint. The waitstaff are accommodating, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We have come here many times with our young son, on date nights and out with friends and every time, I say how much I love it there. Sit outside for a truly awesome... More

Spent a Wednesday night here with friends. Great, fresh seafood platter, calamari and a lobster roll! All delicious and fresh, reasonable prices. Great ambiance.

During our recent trip to Long Island to see Barbra Streisand, I suggested we drive over to Port Washington for lunch. I lived very near this restaurant when I trained at North Shore University Hospital in the 1980s, and it was amazing to come back. The restaurant sits on the Long Island Sound, and we had a beautiful view of... More

Went for Mom's 84th birthday, food took so long to reach table she turned 85. New menu caught our group by surprise, bad on us. Took 3 different requests and another 30 minute wait for our check. Lethargic service, slow kitchen and new menu means we won't be back.

Went for a weekday lunch on a beautiful day and sat outside with a great view of the water and docks! Service was very good, relatively quick and friendly. We shared a lobster salad, salmon toast, and white clam pizza- all were very tasty and plenty of food for the two of us! All of the dishes that came out... More

Took Mom out for lunch here today as she likes going there for the sea view and sunshine on a warm day. I think I read it had changed chefs but was willing to try it. Well, we were sorely disappointed and here are the reasons why: 1. Mom can't walk fast and needs a cane. The hostess just zoomed... More

Small things make a difference. We used to visit Louie's for brunch. The brunch menu eventually disappeared and any remaining traditional items have also vanished. Louie's used to have a wonderful bread. As we were having a glass of wine before our meal, we asked for bread. The answer was NO! Bread is no longer available, only in a new... More

We have been going to Louie's for nearly 40 years but with the change in the menu will need to find another restaurant. The menu has been drastically altered. No longer a fish restaurant. 2 lb lobsters are longer available nor is the signature dessert (Key Lime Pie). Although the steaks were good, with the coming of the new chef,... More

My wife became a citizen on the 13th and wanted to celebrate with lunch at Louie's , a favorite of both her and I......Alert....the menu has changed....the seafood tower available in both hot and cold has been scratched from the menu......snow crab legs as well...and what I considered the best mussels in Queens are no longer on the menu.....also, the... One of Long Island's oldest and most colorful restaurants. From its start in 1905, Louis Zwerlein's "Kare Killer" was a most unusual place. One had to get there by boat since it was built on a floating barge anchored out in the bay. One of its side attractions was that it afforded a fine view of the approaching boats from shore. On occasion, a husband sighting his wife on a course for the barge would dive headlong off the far side and strike out for Great Neck.
When prohibition killed the Kare Killer in 1916, the business moved to a spot adjacent to the Town Dock, renting boats, selling chowder and other seafood. Another move in the early thirties placed the restaurant in its present location still on the Main Street waterfront. In 1954, it was expanded into an adjoining building that had originally been a blacksmith shop.
