We have dined at El Paisano on a number of occasions, but it is always a challenge to know when the restaurant is open. Sometimes the "open" sign is lighted, but the place is obviously closed, and at other times, the "closed" sign is out, but the restaurant is, in fact, open. So, call ahead. That said, the food has... Nicely prepared, high-end Mexican food. Green chili soup/stew should be taken home by the gallon. Watch out for level of spiciness. If unsure, all for mild - then, add heat as you can handle. Great local desserts. All-in-all, this is an authentic Mexican restaurant serving meals that are really good, at a fair price. Enjoy.

Friendly lady owner, but chips were stale and $13 lunch enchilidas was a bit pricey. Appears to only be 3 restaurants in town so not a large number of customers, so maybe she needs to charge higher prices.

My wife and I were taken to El Paisano here by friends for Valentine's Day breakfast (2-14-14). Since my our friends were friends of the owner, we were treated most graciously although other reviews say the same. Contrary to some of the negative reviews, the Breakfast we had was the best Huevos Rancheros I have ever had and I have... More

The food is authentic New Mexican. Simple and excellent. Everything tasted fresh and the service was great! They treated us like guests in their home. We stopped at El Paisano on our drive home from a day trip. We were a group of 9 with 3 toddlers. They catered to our kids and were super sweet to them. The entire... More

This family owned and run restaurant draws me to Capitan, NM several times a year. The homemade Chili Relleno is the best in the WORLD! I have not found better in Texas or NM. The owners are nice and the restaurant is clean.

My daughter eats here about four times a year as she travels to and from hunting camp. As a treat we stopped here on our way to California. I loved the food. It's not TexMex like we have where I'm from in Texas. It's a small family run business, with the food prepared by the owner, so the wait is... More

My wife and I just had lunch at this establishment. Unbelievably bad but priced like a four star restaurant. I had two tostadas with regular brown beans, a little meat, lettuce and blackened guacamole with a few more plain brown beans and four small bits of boiled squash for $12.00. Chips and salsa for $2.95 and the salsa is out... More

We ate at the El Paisano Restaurant Saturday evening. I have to say that was the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten in NM. Homemade chips and salsa my foot. Tacos were dry , can beans, boxed rice yuck! So much for the Capitian Mountain Muffins boy were they a joke, My 6 year pld niece makes better muffins.... More
