Had a chicharron burrito and it was to die for. I told the waitress if I had dry ice and a cooler I'd be going home with a dozen of them. Hubby's port dish was great with a great red sauce. I will return the next visit to Bernalillo.

Had the taco salad which was in a fried shell. Meat and refried beans were very flavorful. Nice first meal when arriving in New Mexico!

So much more to Abuelita's and the green chili. I absolutely love their whole beans and tamales. Small enough to be comfortable and large enough to turn out some great local food. No chain food here. I have not been disappointed with breakfast, lunch or dinner. Really good sopapillas too. Relaxed vintage dinning room. Go, you'll love it.

I was filling my truck at the gas station, ask a police office next to me what is the best place to eat in town. He smiled and said Abuelitas then gave me directions. Staff were outstanding. We both had a great New Mexico breakfast. Grandma pictures everywhere let you see the history in this place. We will bring one... More

Bring a picture of Grandma, to add to their collection. Menudo (with the Red chili, green is spicier) is wonderful. Fajitas good too.

We stopped here late because we were hungry and had trouble finding any place to stop. We were en route to Albuquerque from Santa Fe and there are few stops near the freeway. We ventured into Bernalillo and were about to give up. We happened upon this place in what must be a downtown (or maybe more like main street)... More

This is a wonderful, down-home, New Mexican restaurant where the locals go. No tourists (other than ourselves) cited. Very good flat enchiladas with fried egg on top. Super good (but also super spicy) green chile sauce (the hottest food I had on a 5-day trip to Santa Fe--which is a good thing in my view). Lovely wait staff. Super fresh... More

Abuelitas was a favorite eatery when I lived in Rio Rancho from 1994 to 1998! Once a week we ate here for authentic New Mexico cuisine! Coming back here in 2016 was a delight to try the shredded beef enchiladas with the area's hottest green chile, wow, you can tell it is hot when you hiccup almost from the moment... More

Last time we went to Abuelita's I LOVED my burrito smothered with Xmas-chile. However my husband thought the green on his dish was pretty hot, and he choked a bit. :) The decor is very basic, the food is home-cooked. I especially like the chile, but its hotness is variable depending on the season, ripeness of the peppers, drought, etc.... More

If you like your chile mild and kind of watered down - go for it you gringos. Food is ok for price but nothing to write home about.
