I visited with a friend a few days before New Year. Staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. To start with I ordered smoked salmon and my companion venison carpaccio. Portions were small but of course those are pricey items. For the main course I ordered trout with warm nicoise salad. Very well executed except there was probably too much of an abundance of potatoes and not enough of the other vegetables, My companion ordered the lamb rib chops which were excellent in all respects, tender, juicy and full of flavour. Definitely a venue to visit in Swellendam.

Need to book for this restaurant but definitely worth it. The food and service are excellent. Wine brilliant especially their Albariño.
Ate there on both evenings of our stay and can thoroughly recommend the fillet steak and the pork tenderloin. Starters good too. Black fig with Parma ham memorable.

The hostess at Rothman Manor suggested we eat here and made us a reservation. As it turned out the place was full so we appreciated her helpfulness.
The servers were jolly folk, happy to chat, a touch cheeky but also efficient. I had the 3 course set menu of carpaccio (excellent horseraddish base), followed by the duck breast (delicious) and then a small (all the better for it) chocolate tart creation served with espresso and brandy on the side...and boy did it work. Not too much chocolate to kill the taste buds but enough to tingle.
A couple of decent sized glasses of house malbec and I was very content.
Book, eat and burp gently....this place is a winner.

We expected to be delighted by this restaurant but weren’t. Starting with the positives, the service was excellent and the lovely wine recommended by our waiter was really delicious. The setting in a traditional building was nice and we liked the candlelit ambience but several things were not so good. Firstly we were handed 2 menus, both printed on tatty well worn paper, one for the a la carte offer and one for the three course set meal. Weirdly, all the food on the set meals was also on the a la carte and was exactly the same price which seemed to make no sense. We ordered from the a la carte but got charged for the set meal anyway! But the real disappointment was the food which was quite pleasant but not exceptional.

My family and I are staying for 2 days in Bloom Estate Guesthouse and decided to try Field & Fork via a Google search, read the reviews and was told by the owners of Bloom Estate Guesthouse that the food is excellent. We tried it on Friday 4/3/2022 but to our disappointment it wasn’t meant to be. The place wasn’t as we have expected it to be and a very limited menu. We ordered a bottle of wine, had bread for the table and had s small starter (smoked salmon and cream cheese roulade) which was very nice. Since we know what we wanted we decided on the fish starter and wanted to order Pan Fried Kabeljou which was served with steamed black mussels but we were told that their shipment of mussels hasn’t arrived and there wasn’t any replacement in its place (like prawns). We were told to order mash potatoes instead. We decided to ditch the mains and paid for our so called very tiny starters, wine, water. Not even shy of the prices for starters and the people working there wasn’t friendly at all. I don’t know why this place opened on the 14/2/2022, when it could’ve stayed closed permanently for bad service and food. Try again and catch someone else. Will definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone in the future.

Situated in the Old Jail in the Drostdy Museum complex, this is one of the few eateries open on a Sunday evening in Swellendam. We had the finest meal that we have had for a long time. The Parma ham starter was exceptional with an eclectic range of tastes and textures. The duck breast was also excellent, cooked "medium" and served with a subtle balsamic jus which did not overpower the delicate flavour of the duck. The wine list is limited to Olivedale Estate, but corkage is reasonable at R 60 if you BYO.
This is fine dining at an affordable price. Portions are reasonable being neither too big nor too small. my wife was happy with 2 starters and my main course was quite adequate. Service was good and friendly.

I made a reservation via the website which was confirmed to me via email. When knew we would be running late (4 hours notice!) I tried ringing the number on the website, which was out of service. I then sent an email to the number listed on the website, but received no response. When we arrived we were told that there was no record of our reservation and that they were fully booked for the night. Having then shown them my email confirmation we were told that the phone lines had been down for several weeks and the website was undergoing renovation. This background was not helpful to our immediate situation. They then found us a table (there were a few unoccupied tables for the duration of our visit). The food was okay, nothing to call home about and very overpriced for what it was. The whole experience to me was that of a small child wearing their mum’s high heels and claiming to be big. Their concept of ‘fine dining’ is a child trying to be a grown up, and bears no comparison to real fine dining experiences

We were staying at the lovely Schoone Oordt and had been recommended to eat one evening at Field & Fork which we had previously booked. We were not disappointed. One of the most delicious meals that we ate during our four week stay in S Africa. Wonderful, beautifully cooked food; attentive and friendly but unhurried service with delicious wine in a lovely atmosphere. Most enjoyable and to be highly recommended.

Very quiet restaurant without a hint of music so our kids banter was probably heard throughout. I am grateful though that the restaurant accepts kids as so many others in town snub their nose to these younger patrons. Food was good. Very tasty lamb. We ordered the 3 course menu. Wine list is a little limited. Unfortunately our waitress seemed to be sick at the time and so her constant coughing over everything was a little worrying (I’m home sick writing this now!) But the family enjoyed eating in a historical home and I would recommend trying it for yourself.

What an amazing, ing surprise to find this wonderful restaurant in Swellendham recommended by our accommodation. Brilliantly cooked and presented beef in beautiful historic surroundings by candlelight topped with great creme brule and sticky toffee pudding .. not to mention fabulous local wine and homemade bread!

A lovely evening in an intimate restaurant.
Duck and fillet for our two main courses. Duck was superb, beef underdone and fries extremely salty.
We had finished eating before we were asked how the meal was.
Staff superb..Pauline and Megan.
Have to say that we will remember their lovely smiling service long after we remember the food!

Half good half bad.
Nice setting, poor food and service.
The pork was very good and the beef filet that should have been medium rare was dead as a shoe sole.
The service person was inattentive and uninterested.
Doesn't live up to the high standards we have found in other South African restaurants we have visited.

We ate in our hotel the first evening in Swellendam but decided to try a local restaurant the second night. Our hotel booked the table for us.
We found a very friendly knowledgeable waitress in a small cosy restaurant (no outside views). Everything was fresh and beautifully served. There is no menu online so I think it changes with availability. Good wine choices too. Definitely worth a visit.

During our stay in Swellendam in December we had dinner one evening at Field & Fork. Delicious food and wines, and first class service in a historical setting. The heritage building is part of the town museum, so it is a privilige to visit it. After the dinner, the staff arranged coffee avec for us outside on the stoep with a small lantern that lit up in the loadshedded darkness. Very romantic and recommendable👌

My wife and I enjoyed an evening meal at Field and Fork recently and thought that Pauline and Megan were really friendly and very professional. The food was also enjoyable and we decided to go for the a la carte menu which was very nice indeed. We enjoyed our evening.
