I had a Sunday afternoon dinner with an old friend during a visit to NJ. We had a large platter of seafood, and a pleasant wine from Portugal. The portions were large and the price very fair. I will be back on my next opportunity.

Dinner we ordered a large platter of seafood, fantastic selection and very fresh. The restaurant is easy enough to find, clean with a Portuguese flair, like the blue tiles on the walls, will go back soon.

With the good reviews. And I may try again because of them, BUT we had the worst dining experience that I can remember in a long time. Sunday evening and all you heard from any waiter or employee you could flag down was how busy they were. Very noisy place but that is one negative that management can't control. For... More

not the cheapest place to eat in Newark which is famous for the great restaurants in the Ironbound neighborhood. Sol-mar offers a pretty extensive menu, but my suggestion after eating there dozens of time si, stick to fish and bacalhau (salted cod) because no one can make it like the Portuguese. There is always warm bread, olives, and fresh cheese... More

We were a large group of about forty diners for an evening meal. What we had had been pre-arranged but I was told it was representative of their menu. Everything was excellent as was the service. Highly recommended!

The atmosphere in here was fantastic! Cute Portuguese decorations were all over. The manager spoke to us and went above and beyond when answering our questions about the items on the menu. topped the evening off with port wine on the house. Recommend getting a seafood special but the steak looks delicious!
