I had lunch here with a couple of friends while we traveled through Portsmouth. We were seated quickly but it took a while for someone to take our order (seemed to be confusion between the servers but they saw us and still didn’t check on...More

Yes, they know how to pour a Guinness the traditional way, And they always have a good selection of local craft beers on tap too. The building it is in was an old bank and it has a unique ceiling and rotunda, so you get...More

If you are looking for a fabulous, dog friendly, restaurant I highly recommend RI RA in Portsmouth. Fantastic service, great drinks, excellent food, and they gave our pup cookies and his own water dish.

Visited on Mother’s Day at 3pm. Waited over an hour for our food. Then the vegetable crepe I ordered had bits of bacon in it, even though this item was clearly marked vegetarian on the menu. The manager did give us our meal for free,...More

I would actually give Ri Ra 3 1/2 stars if I had the option. It is a decent restaurant and all of my friends love it but I have never really been able to say that I love it. The food is good, my favorite...More

Loved the food and atmosphere. There were four of us. We were seated in main area. A little loud, but we could hold good conversations. We left before band played... they were setting up about 4 feet from our table... with amplifiers... would have been...More

Description
THE OLDEST BANK BUILDING IN THE USA The two separate bank buildings of 22 and 26 Market Square, actually started as one building called The New Hampshire Bank, back in 1803, making it the oldest bank building in The United States. The New Hampshire Bank occupied the site since 1782, but the current building was constructed in 1803. In 1869, the building was divided with the Portsmouth Savings Bank taking the north half and The First National Bank occupying the south half of the building. When the Portsmouth Savings Bank needed to expand in 1903, it did so by incorporating a saloon to its north into the building. When the Bank opened in 1904, incorporating the neighboring saloon, it did so with a newly constructed huge glass dome depicting the Great Seal of New Hampshire; this remains the focal point for when Rí Rá opened its doors in March 2009. In 1977 the building(s) were admitted to the National Register of Historic Places
