Since Interstate Brands bought and destroyed the great old San Francisco sourdough bakeries (and then went bankrupt) I've been on a search for the real thing. Even the "artisan" sourdoughs aren't - they use industrial dough, like Interstate Brands, with more additives than you can name. (My guess is that those additives, not Gluten, are what make people sick.) I'm... More

Not sure what has happened to this once reliable eatery. Just had the worst tuna melt I have ever had, tuna tasted stale and with over toasted bread. The guy who took the order was rude and the side salad looked like salad mix poured out of a bag and dumped on the plate. Used to be way better.

This Paul Schats is one of two as I believe the other one is in California. They have a great bakery and good food for lunch. They can be a little pricey so you can hit the day old rack if you don't want to spend a lot on their baked goods!

The prices aren't too high and it's a nice place (though a bit small and can get crowded) to give yourself a sweet treat now and then. I would recommend visiting here outside of the noontime lunch hour to be able to fully relax and enjoy what you buy.

This bakery/cafe has great sandwiches for lunch and fresh bread to take home. Love the "Tahoe Blue".

The store has very little room to move around in and the staff are not that friendly. The service is really slow.

This is a great place to eat breakfast or lunch. I love their parmesan twist pastries and the ham and cheese crossiants are so good. Actually all of their pastries are excellent and a great price. I have only had the hamburger for lunch there and it is super. I would highly recommend this place. Only downside is there are... More

So; I am normally very low carb type, but decided to "splurge" and spent some time considering all the places I could go to get a really good deli sandwich and sit down with a good cupp of coffee to enjoy my treat. Schat's has a reputation for excellent breads, so I decided to go there. Picked a Reuben sandwich... More

What could be better than a hearty sandwich, bowl of soup, and a pastry to go? That's the recipe for a great lunch at Schat's. There are only a handful of sandwich choices but they're very good, of course served on fresh baked bread. On the way out, select from a huge assortment of decadent treats.
