My husband and I decided on a last minute dinner there. It is a bit pricey but worth every dollar. I had the most delicious and beautifully presented fish I've had. Their special fresh halibut, grilled with lemon and butter, was plated by itself, a long graceful slender but thick piece. Every bite was a treat. It flaked perfectly with... More

Very disappointed. When I called to make New Year's Eve reservations, I was not told that there was an alternate menu with only 5 main course selections. It was not posted on their website either. Then, the prices were jacked up -- every course offered was $50. Regularly, the prices would have been around $35. When we sat down, I... More

I finally had a chance to dine at a long standing steak restaurant in St. Louis. Its a cozy, friendly neighborhood establishment. Robin was our waitress and she suggested the Steak by George (center cut filet Mignon). I order that with a large baked potato and a caesar salad. I also had a glass of their house Merlot that was... I've wanted to try this restaurant for years--we've lived nearby for 15 years and have not stopped in, mainly because steak restaurants are simply that--too limited a menu for us to find attractive. But I took our daughter (age 30) last week and was quite taken with the place. It is old-school-looking--interior stained glass panels, white tablecloths, low (dropped) ceiling,... More

The steaks were very good and service was fine but everything seemed a bit rushed. It wasn't easy to relax and enjoy the meal. Probably will not return.

Still great and much less expensive than the chain steak houses. We have been going there for over 40 years still the best local steak house

I met a friend at Charcoal House. He's a regular; I probably haven't been there for at least 20 years. We both ordered the lunch special, a beef shish-kabob served on a bed of rice, then covered with a ladle of mushroom gravy. This was probably one of the weekly lunch specials 20 years ago. It's my sense that the... More

I have been going to the Charcoal House for many years and the food is very good, and the entire staff is exceptional from the busboys to the waitresses to the chef to the owners--they will make you feel at home. There are not many places left like this that have been around for over 30 years with the same... More

The slaw lacked some essential ingredients, oil, lemon juice, salt, sugar. Just had the cabbage and carrot! order was picked up by me [Jack]. 314 645-2267 This will not deter my wife and I from enjoying meals at the Charcoal House as it was just one of those unfortunate happenstances!

I have been to the Charcoal House many, many times through the decades and it never changes. And that's a good thing, because I believe I can remember nearly every visit for the same reason. We always go there with old friends and we always have a great time. Many years ago there were a number of restaurants in St.... More
