Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The different flavours of tacos you can have here are for my money the best in Sayulita. Do yourself a favour order the queso fundido, its melted cheese heaven. Just don't expect to be able to walk later! The steak tacos are phenomenal , try the different cuts of meat they really are sumptuous. There are about 6-7 tables here, and its a walk in service, so don't complain if you have to wait a while, the food is worth the wait! Leave your name, grab a drink somewhere else if you want and then come back. But you won't get better streak tacos anywhere in Sayulita. The sides they give you for free are worth their weight in gold, be careful on the dips, some of them are spicy but they offer a real flavour of Mexico. And get the non alcoholic cocktails in the jars, i think we had basil and pineapple one night and then the other one the next night. Its the most refreshing thing you will ever drink. The Guacamole and chips are awesome, the queso fundido i'll be dreaming of eating again for the rest of my life, and the steak tacos are incredible. Be aware they are big portions when they come, 2 tacos seems like such a small amount of food, but by the end of it they will be rolling you home. Awesome place and even better one of the tastiest meals i've ever eaten and it worked out $10 for 2 people, you just can't get better than that.

Large overstuffed incredible tacos! I ordered the arrachera steak taco and it was the best quality steak ive had on a taco in my entire travels through Mexico. The waiter suggested a taco with cheese in between two tortillas wIth breaded chopped chicken and sautéed poblano peppers on top. We already plan to go back there again during our stay.

Asked a friend from the states where she ate when she was here a few months ago and without hesitating, she recommended El Itacate. We ordered a variety of tacos and they did not disappoint. A 7 year old local joined us at our table outside to play with our dog. Only wish we had an Rl Itacare in Amapas.

It is good to know that they don't make their own taco shells, they just add the meat, veggies or seafood. There are so many better options in Sayulita to enjoy tacos which are made from scratch in the restaurant. There are useally a queue but the food isn't worth the waiting. If you wanna have a margarita it will come from a jar. We waited in the line fro 30 minutes and then another 45 min for the food.

This place was highly recommended, but our experience was terrible. The tacos come very plain, which is fine because they supposedly serve it with hot beans, salsas and hot onions, our came with nothing. Our server did not come to our table at all, I asked for the fixings and then watched them take a tray off another table, topped it up a bit and put it on ours. Seriously. There were limes that were already squeezed on it. So unprofessional, not to mention gross. We never did get the hot fixings, so our tacos were mighty plain. Don’t bother with this place. I told our server the issues after tracking him down because we wanted to leave. He didn’t give a damn, have us the full bill. Avoid. Although I bet if you are planning to order a ton of food and drinks they may treat you better. Tables next to us got all the goods, and service.

Upon arrival they take forever to attend you, super over priced, paid $30 for two small lemonades two ta so and a baked potato. Ya is we’re dry and didn’t have any flavor to them, and potato was cold. If you want some real tacos go to “EL TALIVAN”. This place is over rated.

Best steak tacos ever, ask for Arrachera, it is a fabulous marianated mexican flank steak. Awesome tray of goodies to add to your tacos, including grilled onions. If you are hungry, ask for an itatcate. It is a burrito, but instead of the tortilla, it is wrapped in a cheese chicharon (cheese melted and cooked on the griddle). YUMMY! Also, order a Albaca/Pina agua fresca to drink, most refreshing! Amazing veggie options too.

I had a steak taco and a breaded chicken taco and my wife had a steak itacate. We had 2 cokes as well and came to about 400 pesos. It was good value but wasn’t very tasty and the breaded chicken didn’t have much chicken in it. It was a good sized portion . My wife had the itacate and found it very greasy, to the point where it was making her queasy eating it. Not much flavour in the food. Staff were polite and pleasant but it wasn’t for us.

I saw many people lining up and later also realized a friend had recommended El Itacate. Now I know why. I came just before they opened so did not have to wait and had a table to enjoy the array of onions, salsa and white beans placed before me. Then there is the fried cheese tortilla beckoning me with its tasty insides. No matter if you are omnivore, carnivore or vegetarian you can delight in this gooey, yummy crunchy local favorite. As a person who loves onions I was also super happy with the little packets of baked onions, chopped red onion with cilantro AND what might have been marinated onion provided to go with my steak. Plus 2 beers this came to about 22USD (335 pesos). They may be moving from the busy street location soon but I am sure people will follow them

Let us massively over order and the food was bland. Was offered to take the food home but there was no way I would have eaten it the next day. Can not understand the hype. We watched people cueing and read such good reviews. There are so many better restaurants to choose from. Don’t waste your money! In retrospect I could have taken some of the meat to feed the stray dogs...

No flour tortilla needed. They brown cheese on a cast iron griddle, add grilled chicken(or steak) and veggies, fold over like a burrito and voila! you have a Itacate. Best thing ever. Very filling. I can't wait to try to make when I get home. Family scarfed down the fundido too. Tacos were OK. We ate upstairs and enjoyed the band and street performers below.

We had heard so many great things about the tacos here and finally made it in. My husband had the arrachera tacos and liked them. Also had the cheese tortilla one with some sort of steak. He thought it was just ok. I had the carnitas tacos which for me were inedible as there was very little meat just innards...I forgot that carnitas in Mexico usually means you get the whole animal experience. It was not good. However there was a lovely, hungry momma dog and she thought they were the bomb! So we had a win! Really nice people and service. Great salsas and toppings if you like it spicy. Didn’t work out completely for us but would still recommend as many around us seemed to be enjoying their meals.

We went to this place because of good reviews and were very disappointed. No arracheta, no shrimp, no mahi, so we opted for rib eye which first came cold and very chewy and bland. It was replaced with a hot meal but still tough and chewy. We had grilled chicken which was safe but also dry. The waiter up sold us on some guacamole which was fine. We have had better tacos elsewhere and don't understand the hype!

Heard Itacate had great tacos, but I was unimpressed. Meat was bland, only helped by some salsa. Even then, taco was boring. . . Had a fish taco (marlin, with cheese) that tasted weird - didn't like that type of fish. I won't come back.

When we asked for more chips, the waitress hesitated and started to walk away, then stopped and said, “we’re out of chips.” We we’re surprised, because it was only after 5 pm, so we asked her if she was sure. After she confirmed she was, within 5 minutes, we witnessed her and the manager delivering chips to 2 new tables. When we asked them both to explain the discrepancy, they said new chips had just been delivered. No apology and no offer of chips! Also, the tables are on the street with lots of cars, people, and stray dogs. Not sanitary at all. Sorry we ever went.
