Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

At Rudy’s Redeye Grill we received amazing service along with our scrumptious meals. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken pot pie special, which was perfect for a Minnesota winter evening, and my husband said the Prime Rib was one of the best he has ever had!...However, it was the service that really earned our greatest respect - friendly bartender, attentive servers, and all-around genuinely kind folks made our night at Rudy’s extra special! We would highly recommend Rudy’s Redeye Grill!More

I don’t think I got what this restaurant had to offer. There on business, a Tuesday and Wednesday night. First night I ordered 12oz prime rib. Ordered it “medium leaning towards rare”. When I got the dish it was very rare, not sure it even...saw any fire, the meat was very chewy and gristle, which is not common for that cut. I was prepared to pay the price but ended up eating less than half. Waste of money. The wedge salad was good. Second night ordered broasted chicken. Cooked too long and dry. Also did not get my order right. I probably won’t eat there again next time I am in town. It’s expensive and not worth it.More

We eat here three, sometimes four times each week. Food is always, consistently, very good. Service and ambiance are terrific. They pay attention to details in food preparation, quality & presentation. Pot Pie w/Caesar salad on Thursdays is bowl-licking good. Long-term, dedicated staff never disappoints....And it's all that way because of owner Bill Foussard's love for his customers, staff & hospitality. Mr. hospitality: That's Bill Foussard! And that's Rudy's!More

We finally got back to Rudy's post-pandemic (just sort of forgot about it for those years) and it is still an excellent place for a nice lunch. The room has the old-time supper club feel. I've always been fond of their walleye so I had...the lunch walleye, with augratin potatoes and the vegetable of the day which was glazed green beans. That vegetable didn't sound too good but the beans were perfectly cooked and the glaze was very light and perfectly seasoned, and possibly the best part of the very good meal. Didn't care for the augratin potatoes because they were cubed, but the sauce was good. Husband had a daily special, country-fried chicken with gravy and very good garlic mashed potatoes. He raved about how good it was. It was a huge portion so he took half home and ate it the next day. Haven't tried any of the beef options yet, but we would be happy to eat here again.More

The food we ordered was excellent and the bar tenders were very good. The place was so busy that we ate at the bar. That was quite alright and interesting watching how a good bartender works!

Met a couple of girlfriends the other day for lunch and I had never heard of Rudy’s although I live on the other side of town. I was pleasantly surprised upon walking in. Very cozy and love the lights on the trees, very welcoming. Not...sure if those are decorations year round as it was September when we dined here. The menu choices were abundant, food was delicious and service was fantastic. We had Mary Jo and she was a sweetheart! HUGE portions and great pricing, something you don’t see nowadays. I can see why they’re rated high on Trip Advisor. Loved it so much I’m taking my husband there today and looking forward to it!More

Nice classic restaurant to enjoy anytime and any day. Great service and food. Excellent Bar service and Cocktails. Manhattans and Old Fashions best to try. If you like Calamari, go for them and if you are a fan of Burgers, try the Rudy’s Burger, will...not be disappointed. If you have room for dessert, Key Lime Pie. After all of this, White Bear Lake Town, is a nice place for a walk or shop or enjoy the lake view. Until next time.More

I am a French-trained chef, and I have talked to your chef (doubtful he is) on a few different occasions about the soup. The French onion soup, which, unfortunately, I have got to say is some of the worse I have ever eaten. In fact,...Campbell's has a better French onion soup than Rudy's, and I truly mean that. So where do I begin... The onions should be caramelized in butter and garlic with some bay leaves and fresh thyme; Rudy's onions are undercooked, not even close to being caramelized, and hard to chew. The onions are also quite large, and the knife cuts are the worst I have ever seen! If you are going to serve a soup, call it "French," oh, and charge $9.00 for a bowl, then where is the wine that should be added to the onions once they have caramelized? Wine is what gives the soup its depth. Rudy's French onion tastes like you threw some onions into some broth, and OMG, that slice of sandwich bread underneath the cheese, where is the sliced French baguette, which is the vessel for the Gruyere cheese to rest on while the cheese melts under the broiler? The only thing right about the French onion soup at Rudy's is the cheese! You could do so much better. Invest in some butter, wine, and fresh herbs; then, you will have a soup worthy of being called "French" and worth every penny of that $9.00 bowl.More

My husband and I have been many times at Rudy’s Red Eye and like the comfy atmosphere and pretty good service, the drinks but not really the food. The soups of Du Jour are not usually good neither some appetizers such as the artichoke spinach...dip and others. Last time, we ordered the “Special” of that night, Prime Rib, and was too bad!! For a 12 Oz piece of beef there was pure fat, like 8 Oz of fat!! The drinks were OK not the water that, I had to asked our waitress to change the glass and the water just because, it did not taste well. It was a disappointing experience, specially, when we were celebrating our Anniversary.More

Deserves more credit…But…I have dined there before, many times, but lately has not been great. This time, Prime Rib. Absolutely bad, not a reminiscence of a real Prime Steak. I ordered medium rare and came done. It was not pink, it was like boiled, like...a meet done for a broth. Grayish! Full of fat! Prime has fat but this one had at least over 35% fat. I will question mark if I am going there again. 2 times in a row? Let’s think…..?More

Not sure what happened here. The food used to be much better. I will say the appetizer walleye fingers were pretty good and the bull bites were as well. I got the filet mignon with a crab cake as my main entre. The filet was...not good as it was a bit dry and tough (I ordered it medium rare so it was not dry and tough due to being overcooked). The crab cake was absolutely horrible. It was an orange pasty puck with no discernable crab meat or really crab flavor. I can honestly say I have no idea what it was even made out of. The consistency was a paste that stuck to my mouth. The service was not that great either. Our server forgot to place my drink order when the food came out so I ate almost my entire entre without a drink. My drink of choice was a traditional Old Fashioned that was not that great.More
