One of our friends (who happens to be Indian) accidentally bumped the last bit of a person's drink on the floor. A drop landed on said person's shoe. Our friend immediately apologized and bought him another drink. The drink was apparently "not the right brand of gin" and he aggressively demanded that our friend kneel down and clean his boots.This... More

In a sea of change in a world of fear- this little beacon welcomes you in from that storm/ brushes you off / and then gently kicks you back out the door.

My brother describes Palmer's Bar as "a tiny place where New Orleans meets Portland." I don't completely agree, but this place has a ton of cultural mishmash going on in-and-around it. Located in the heart of the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, you're not going to find the comforts of your average Twin Cities pub or sports bar. As already mentioned, food is... More

I think the only food they serve here is Heggie's Pizza but i could be wrong. The place was pretty crowded when I went and it truly is a dive bar. They had live music outside till 10pm. Charlie Parr playing some bluegrass. Beers where $6 a piece for tall boys of Surly or Lonestar. It was hot evening with... More

A place that tries hard to be an old-fashioned workingman's bar in the middle of a neighborhood full of university students and devout Muslim abstainers. Fortunately, it's on a busy street with good transit connections for actual people who both work, drink, and like to listen to good ol' rock 'n roll music.

We slipped into this late night spot after a show at the Cedar Cultural Center, and we were greeted warmly and treated very well at the bar. The bartender, Seneca, seemed to know everyone, and was able to make conversations easily. Great dive atmosphere, funky art collection, cheap pulls. Will visit again when in MN.

Palmer's the last real dive on the West Bank and one of the finest watering holes in town. Big cheap shots and mixed drinks (nothing fancy), some good taps, and if you're hungry they have heggie's pizza. Good live music most nights of the week, and so on. Outsiders welcome.

We had nearby concert tickets and thought we would a check out one of the old dive bars in the area beforehand. When we first walked in and took a seat at the bar, the older bartender (woman) gave us the stink eye as we looked out of place. Once my husband tipped her very well, she warmed right up.... More
