We eat here several times a year. It's never a disappointment. One of the most reliable restaurants in the area if you want a fabulous, no fuss meal. Chicken is wonderful, burgers are excellent. This is a Port Huron institution and treasure!

The chicken was a good as I remember many years ago when I lived in the area. Although the chicken & waffles were nothing special I've had much better elsewhere. Service was attentive and friendly. Lots of tv's, keno & pull tabs and it looked...More

My family loves this old-time restaurant and I'm told this has the best chicken around. Since even salads all come with chicken, as a vegetarian I opted for the salad minus the chicken, which was still good.

We ALWAYS stop for dinner when visiting Port Huron. We typically go to the back door (fondly calle Chicken in the Rough) for carry-out. We never remember to order ahead so we always have to wait quite awhile. Everyone always agrees that the wait is...More

The chicken in the rough was delicious we ordered takeout and took it home for dinner [144 miles). It wasn't soggy. We ate it cold and it was wonderful. I wish we lived closer.

If not for the chicken you must try the bloody ceasar. An awesome drink! Always great food no matter what your taste.

The Palms Krystal Bar and Grill by far have the best broasted chicken in the Bluewater Area. You have to wait about 20 minutes and then you just dig in your basket. 4 piece chicken dinner comes with coleslaw, shoe string potatoes, roll, butter and...More

In 1936 Beverly and Rubye Osborne were driving west from Oklahoma to California. They had no reason to be joyful. They were middle aged and the Depression had wiped out their savings. On this particular afternoon it seemed that everyone in the state was attempting to escape the famine of the Oklahoma dust bowl. With not much more than their meager belongings and a basket of fried chicken, Beverly Osborne coaxed his Ford pickup across the barren prairie. Suddenly, a bump in the rutted road scattered the chicken and basket. Picking it up, Rubye complained "this is really Chicken in the Rough®." With that chance remark, a fortune was born. Beverly turned his truck around and headed back home. A man who, on instinct, had made a modest fortune and lost it - Beverly reasoned that "fingers were made before forks" and that chicken could be a cheap source of food at a time when incomes were sparse. Beverly learned from his previous business experience and failures that every business must provide customer satisfaction by identifying customers' needs and how to satisfy those needs better than anyone else. Soon, with the money he had received from the sale of his wife's wedding ring, he had an operation serving fried chicken with shoestring potatoes, hot biscuits and honey. That was the delectable meal that started "Fast Food - Fried Chicken Franchising" - long before McDonald's or Kentucky Fried Chicken.
