The decor and food is plain and simple, nothing fancy. It's a lovely place to just relax and eat something comforting. The owner (?) came around to each table, something you don't see everyday. Despite being very busy, we still received good service.

Graskop was very full the day we visited, all restaurants were packed and being ravenously hungry we settled for Canimambo. The waiters were friendly, service was good, beers were cold. We ordered a range of meals off the menu: burgers, toasted sandwiches, grilled chicken, moelas & a house chicken dish (I forget the name). The food was dosed in paprika,... More

Thank you for your review, however next time send your food back if you have a problem, don't complain the next day after the fact and don't pop your bottle top caps all over the floor, that's common. The name is Canimambo (meaning many thanks and used extensively in Mocambique) and not Canimambos. The dish you can't remember the name... More

A great place to sit and relax with tasty food, good cocktails and friendly service in Graskop. We would definitely visit again, just as we have on previous visits to the area.

During my visit to the panoramic view, we stopped at this restaurant in Graskop. The food was pretty amazing.Especially the prawns, the owner had told us these were from Mozambique.Much bigger than the average prince prawns you would get at a franchised restaurant in Johannesburg. The prices are mid-range and are good value for money. This is very much a family feel to... After struggling to find a place that would have yummy food at a decent price , we decided to try this restaurant and we regret we didnt stay longer in Graskop to return ! The service was good , the food delicious , cocktails really nice , and the prices are really affordable ! We really enjoyed our meals !

I was expecting much better. Prawns not properly grilled, chicken was breast and very dull, wine selection poor, not a great example of good Portuguese food.

Good food and informal, homey vibe. A bit pricy for this type of restaurant - bit still an enjoyable dinner. Our waiter, Marcus, was wonderful.

Food was really tasty and atmosphere pleasant. We sat outside. Chorizo was a bit burned, but I guess it's supposed to be served like that. We thought we received a breadbasket, which you normally don't get anymore and enjoyed it with the butter provided. When our starters arrived, 15 minutes later, we were informed that the bread was supposed to... More

Description
Being a sea-faring nation the Portuguese were intrepid explorers and among the first Europeans to visit the Cape of Good Hope in the 1500s. In the Colonial era that followed they left their mark in various places on the African continent – Angola, Moçambique and South Africa. From the indigenous people they learnt the usefulness of chilies (piri-piri), which they combined with more traditionally Portuguese ingredients such as olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Where European Portuguese food is delicately flavoured, Portuguese– Southern African cuisine is fearlessly fiery. Canimambo is a family run restaurant, where you can meet Carla, the Mozambican/Portuguese owner, husband Lance, sons Sean and Wesley, daughters Courtney and Nicole and son-in-law Nando. We pride ourselves in authentic cuisine, friendly service and a cozy atmosphere. Look out for the following when visiting us:The breadbasket: Portuguese rolls are an absolute treat and a meal within a meal. Figados de galinha á piri-piri (piri-piri chicken livers) is a local institution. Use the bread to mop up the lovely juices and you will understand why they never go out of fashion. Batata frita - hands down the South African Portuguese make the best potato chips in the country. Double fried with lots of salt and dollops of vinegar on demand, makes it comfort food in the extreme. Espetada de bife - The Portuguese espetada consists of cubes of perfectly aged rump steak, bay leaves and lemon dipped in course salt before landing on the grill. The natural bay leaf flavour permeates the meat and the salt seals those meaty juices in. Charred on the outside and succulent inside, it’s a steak meal with a difference. Galinha piri-piri (Piri-piri chicken) arguably the most popular dish in South Africa served hot, mild or with lemon butter sauce. Camarão grelhado na brasa (flame grilled prawns), sardinhas assadas na brasa (flame grilled sardines) and ervilhas com chourico e ovos escalfados (pea stew with chourico and poached eggs) are some of the other popular Portuguese dishes on the menu.
