So, word on the street (Well, I heard this story while standing on the corner of a street anyway), is that 1 man immigrated from Greece and opened a hot dog restaurant in. It was doing so well that he sent for his brother, who then immigrated too. They had a falling out and the brother opened his own Coney... More

No trip downtown is complete without stopping here. This place is a Detroit original that keep people from my back for more. The Coney's are always delicious and hot. I always get the chili cheese fries. I love this place.

This place is what it is and you know that from the time you walk in. It has a fairly small menu but who cares when the CHILI is fantastic! The hot dog comes smothered in their signature chili, a dash of mustard and sprinkled with fresh onions. The service was immediate and in under 5 minutes I was enjoying... More

In 52 years I have never been to American Coney Island. I have always gone to Lafayette Coney right next door. My wife and kids and I were playing in Detroit yesterday and went into Lafayette to find that it was packed with many people waiting. We decided to go to American thinking how different/bad could it be. Well.............it as... More

I grew up in Detroit and have eaten at both the American and Lafayette restaurants a number of times, but I have been gone a long while. On my most recent trip my wife and I decided to visit American, she for the first time. We both ordered two coney's, fries and a drink. My wife was impressed with her... More

American Coney Island is a shrine to Detroit Coney Island hotdogs. Grace Keros and her crew are the best. And they give back to the community too! Great food and service. The place to go late at night or anytime. A don't-miss destination in downtown Detroit!

The coney is always good and the service is a throwback. My favorite coney in Detroit. Good bun, good casing on the dog.

Really nice waiters, typical food from Détroit (Coney dog, beers brewed in the city etc.) And prices are low.

Best coney's in Detroit! Never had to ask for a soda refill. Wait staff and bussers were very attentive. Great corner location too! A must-see in the city
