Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

While staying at The Publick House we dined at Ebenezer's Tavern and had a very nice experience. The atmosphere is historic but the chairs are comfortable at the old style tables. We both tried the New England chowder, which was delicious, and both had the...Old Fashioned Chicken Pot Pie which was also excellent and very filling. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive, and they provided complimentary warm breads and yummy side dishes. Our meal was not expensive, as most "historic" places might be, and we enjoyed it very much.More

Stayed in the historic inn for a two-night getaway and hated to leave. This place is a treasure. We love antiques and antique buildings and it is refreshing to see an establishment that respects the history of what they have by keeping as much original...as possible. We ate at Ebenezer’s Tavern in the Inn both nights because the food was so good and reasonably priced. We had scallops and roasted chicken the first night; stuffed shrimp special and fish & chips the second. Both were delicious and plentiful. The bake shop is also worth visiting with delicious cakes and pastries. The sticky pecan rolls are a must-try. All in all, we can’t wait to go back!More

Tastiest baked scrod I ever enjoyed, by far. Excellent attentive service. Historic Colonial ambiance. All-in-all a perfect dining experience!

My 8 member family were there yesterday for our first Thanksgiving not at one of the family members homes. The dining room was lovely, the table was great. We had an 11:30 reservation and the staff was prepared and ready to serve us. Our waitress...was PHENOMENAL...(Crissy??) Every single employee made us feel welcome and comfortable. BUT....the food, that was delicious....was totally cold. The meat, the vegetables, the gravy...everything. That was very disappointing. Just sayin'.More

Had the worst dining experience of my 55 years dining in restaurants. Three times a half roasted chicken arrived at the table undercooked. This occurred after waiting an hour a for the first arrival of the dish. Ended up sharing my wife’s meal with her...while waiting for them to simply properly cook the dish. They seemed uninterested. The issue was not properly addressed in a professional way. We felt they were simply to busy to care. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. In all my years I have never issued a critical review. This occasion justified the note to you all.More

We met friends today for lunch. The atmosphere was lovely, the food disappointing. Service was a bit slow, but ok since we were not in a rush. I will go again to give it another try. Everyone working there was lovely.

The Publick is primarily an inn that has lots of events, we stopped for lunch. It had 8 events going on at the weekend. Even so the Ebenezer tavern room had a table available. The food was OK, (after the spiel about the turkey dinner...being specialty), we had a salad that was over sauced and quite a nice flatbread. Just don't think this is a great place for a stop on your trip if its a weekend, because it is a huge event place.More

We actually were there in October 2019. It was awesome. We were seated in the old dining room with wide plank floors and a huge fireplace. Very cool. They brought us a bread basket that was so good it could have been the meal. I...had the pot roast and it was delicious. It was just a very homey experience and I would go back in a heartbeat.More

Though the main Inn is wonderful for dining, the rooms in the adjacent buildings are like a low rate motel. There is no fridge, no microwave and no coffee maker. We had ants in our first room and though the hotel staff kindly came in...to spray we found out they were coming from the ceiling so we changed rooms, which they were happy to let us do. But overall the accommodations were very disappointing for the price. Breakfast is just a coffee and a small pastry at the Bake ShopMore

The Publick House Bake Shop has been an important memory for my family for more than 35 years. No trip to Sturbridge Village was complete with a stop here for their sticky buns and elephant ears.” I thought I would relive the memory on a...recent trip to Sturbridge and stopped in to the Bake Shop. I wish I hadn’t because this inferior experience will be my last memory of the shop. There were three sticky buns in the case. I asked if they were the regular ones or the minis and was told these are the ones they made today., They were small, pale and had almost none of the caramel topping and nuts that made them so delicious. I opted for a cherry turnover and raspberry elephant ear instead. The turnover was good, moderately flaky with a proportionate amount of filling. The elephant ear, however, had to have sat in the case for days. Rather than a crispy pastry that puff pastry dough should produce, this item was soggy and chewy. Such a disappointment. Sadly, this will be my last visit to the bake shop. I regret that it will color the positive experiences my family and I had previously.More

Selected this restaurant based off reviews and I have to say I am so happy about that! The rolls were delicious, clam chowder and raspberry salad were the best I’ve ever had and the bakery on the way out was amazing!!!

I stopped in the bakery on my way home and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the baked goods. I bought the raspberry truffle cookie and the very last maple nut scone they had; both were freshly baked and delicious. The cookies were reasonably...priced ($1.25/cookie) and the lady behind the counter was nice enough, if a bit harried due to an event happening in the main inn.More

Going to the Publick House used to be a special experience. Now, it’s just average. Their special dishes like prime rib and lobster pie are no longer on the menu. It’s very sad.

We decided to spend an overnight in Sturbridge after visiting Old Sturbridge Village. The original inn is quite lovely and authentic. The inglenook fireplace from the mid 1700s was warm and inviting in the Tap Room. The room we had was in Chamberlain House next...door to the Inn. The room was clean and comfortable. As a standard king room on the second floor, it was fine.More
