**In the interest of full disclosure I have been to the Grog twice because I was performing** I'm always interested to try out American pub fare because it can be hit or miss. That said I always try and temper my expectations (and my stomach) appropriately. After setting up and sound checking I had a good hour before it was... More

Went here on Saturday night, very busy but got seats upstairs at the bar. Now I really do hate it when a male bartender judges you. Honey I've been to more restaurants than you will ever work at. What a dink this kid was. Basically ignored us after our drink order. Thank god his partner came on a great gal.... More

Family friendly without being overcrowded and noisy. Our party tried all of the soups, and each was high quality and tasty. Service was friendly and prompt. Can't wait to try it again.

The Grog is a landmark in Newburyport. They've always been known for decent seafood and steaks. I highly recommend the clam chowder or lobster bisque. You will want to come back for more! The interior is a bit dark, rustic and worn. A New England pub atmosphere with loyal locals. Downstairs at the Grog you will find entertainment of various... More

My bouillabaisse was delicious, and everyone loved their food--risotto, grilled haddock, everything.

Went here for lunch the other day...which quickly turned into a few beers and not doing much else the rest of the day. They have a HUGE local tap list that's worth checking out.

If you visit Newburyport you must stop by The Grog for a brew and a bite. Plenty of "atmosphere" in a rather cozy old-time-feeling pub. Nice bar. Place gets crowded fast, but that's part of its charm.

We ate here several times as part of a large group and in smaller numbers. Grog catered well for us on all occasions. My faves were the salads and the lobster bisque; the latter only narrowly pipped to 'best dish of the trip' by a place in Boston.

We shared a salad with watermelon, avocado & jicama which was delicious. I had scrod with quinoa & baby greens. It had a chipotle sauce which was the best part as it perfectly complimented the flakey fish. Seafood casserole also was selected at our table. Perfect even for one doesn't like 'fishy' tasting fish.

Great, food, good selection of beer on tap, music, and seating at the bar or at tables. Fun atmosphere. Dress up, dress down, anything goes. Always a good place to meet with small or large groups as the menu caters to all.
