We decided to go to Bizen in spite of mixed reviews just to see for ourselves if the restaurant is as excellent or as bad as some people say. After the visit I would definitely side with the people who wrote very positive reviews. We enjoyed the service, as the waiter was very sweet, funny as attentive to our requests.... More

I've spent many years in Japan, and went here when it was described as an excellent Japanese restaurant. It was a quiet lunch hour, most of the staff (none of whom were Japanese) seemed to be on break. While our waitperson tried to be helpful, his communication skills were limited, and the food we were served was unfortunately terrible. Even... More

After being a vegan for 18 months, my first meal as a returning pescatarian was at Bizen! My “staples” are the Chilean Sea Bass, Hijiki salad with ume-scallion dressing, and the Kukicha (non-caffeinated) tea. The freshness, creativity, and impressive variety of high quality menu options are complemented by a replenishing atmosphere. The design of the restaurant, with its small private... More

Went on President's Day weekend. They were totally overwhelmed and the service was poor. The waiter could not communicate well. Sake came out at room temperature. The grilled vegetarian entree came without the ginger sauce. The brown rice was mushy. Really bad experience.

Valentines Day Nightmare! A true disappointment in service all around. This was my second time returning to Bizen and also indefinitely my last. From the moment we walked in barely greeted by a stressed out and less than friendly hostess, to witnessing an aggravated apparently over-seated waitress scolding the host telling her to her to not seat her for at least... If you were ever wondering if healthy, even healing meals could be off-the-charts delicious, creative, and truly satisfying, Bizen Japanese restaurant offers a resounding "yes" to all of the above. We have been eating at Bizen for many years and have never been disappointed. The sushi is fresh, clean, and delicious, the simplest vegetables are cooked with deep appreciation and... More

I have eaten at Bizet for many years- in fact if we are going to be anywhere near Great Barrington, we make sure to reserve a table. We have tried many dishes on the menu and have never been disappointed. Great fresh sushi every time! The cooked dishes are terrific too. It is dependably delicious!

Dear NYfolkgirl On behalf of my entire staff I want to thank you for your supportive review and loyalty to Bizen. It gives us the inspiration and encouragement to continue doing what we do,which is gently nourishing body and spirit in the Berkshires, an oasis of tender, caring souls in a fractured world. Came for an early dinner, and scored a nice table near the sushi bar. Got the last hamachi Kama and it was large and cooked to absolute perfection!! Chris the server, and Dan the sushi chef were simply the best in the business! I am from the Pacific NW, so the only downside is that the pricing is a little... More

I would not recommend. Hot, cramped restaurant. Must take shoes off on dirty floor. Too pricey for the quality. No standard sushi type options. Excellent Thai restaurant around the corner...

Dear Buxom OK is not even in the realm of possibilities to describe this restaurant. Please come back when the temperature is not 110 and a full house in the middle of August. Then I will point out the most extensive sushi list of over 50 sashimi items every day and a glorious selection of sushi rolls colorful and delicious. We enjoyed our last meal in the Berkshires here and it was delightful! We started with grilled scallops and then had the omasake-wonderful choice! Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Service was fantastic and I will definitely return when I visit. Can't wait to try more of the grill items or the traditional Japanese tea service.
