Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a reservation but the restaurant was crowded and we were seated in a tiny unappealing side room. I was so looking forward to the lazy lobster casserole listed on their menu on their website but they did not have it on the menu...in the restaurant. Our server was very accommodating and had the kitchen do chicken piccata instead of cod piccata for me. It was bland. My husband had the meatloaf stack and he thought it was also bland. We were going to have cocktails for dessert and found out they only serve beer and wine. Except for the service, it was a disappointing experience all around.More

Excellent food and very friendly service. Most delicious popovers. Very accommodating to dietary needs. Seemed more locals than tourists. I wouldn’t hesitate to return next time I am in the area

So glad we were able to get in!!! On a very busy Saturday night, they found us a spot and we loved it. Grandma and 3 teens easily found exactly what we wanted on the menu and the service was great. The popovers before the...meal was a super treat. From surf and turf to clams to vegetarian tortillas we were all very happy. Cute little spot right on the Main Street. Would definitely recommend….(but get reservations-you might not be as lucky as we were)More

If I wrote this review 2 years ago, I would have rated Passports a 5 out of 5. We celebrate our wedding anniversary in Gloucester every year since we got married there 16 years ago. We have been customers of Passports for several years. However,...our visit last night was less than satisfactory when we walked in the door. We asked the hostess where Christopher was. He has been an exceptional host throughout the years. To put it nicely, our hostess did not have any kind words about Christopher which we found unprofessional. We had reservations but had to wait for the staff to move a couple from a table under the loud AC. Not even asking if we would mind to take that table, the hostess moved us there. Yes, it was very loud and compounded by two large parties in that room. Typically customers are served with popovers shortly after sitting them. It was several minutes before they came and the waitress said “I finally found the popovers.” We ordered a bottle of wine and ordered our food when the wine arrived. My wife ordered the Sisters Haddock which has been her favorite dish - I ordered the seared tuna. My dish was good not up to par though. My wife found the Sisters Haddock to be different - not as she remembered but good. Overall, the dining experience has diminished at Passports. It’s too bad but we hope that they turn it around.More

This is the 3rd visit to this gem in 2-years. Last night's meal was as delicious as the last two meals we had here. They honor reservations, have a fairly priced menu and wine list and most importantly, a selection of entrees and appetizers touching...many continents. Fresh ingredients, perfect seasoning and ample portions are what you will receive. Service is excellent as-well and the popovers, served fresh right-out-of-the oven are delicious.More

Our crowd of 13 had another exceptional meal here! Owner very kind and engaging. Server did yeoman’s job keeping us fat & happy! The kitchen works well beyond its physical limitations with precise timing and preparation! Between gluten & lactose issues, a plethora of food...allergies, vegetarianism and diabetes we all came out unscathed! TOO many laudatory features to itemize here but just know everyone was very satisfied! (Mushroom tort Delux Elle was ridiculously rich and satisfying!!!) The ONLY negatives were that: They ran out of Guinness😳. They ran out of popovers (Yorkshire Pudding) after our initial batch😳. We will NOT notify British authorities….this time! The owner is a Brit!😀 Passports remains an excellent and charming respite from the usual sea shanty offerings, albeit usually very good, that abound on the rock called Cape Ann!More

We chose one drink and the taster beer medley, gazpacho, grilled shrimp salad and shared a signature dessert. All was excellent and we would return without hesitation.

We called in for lunch on a one day visit to Gloucester and were not disappointed. We were made very welcome by the host Christopher with whom we discovered we had much in common. There is a great menu, sandwiches, burgers, seafood etc. Overall highly...recommended.More

Came here for dinner. Literally everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. We ordered the halibut specials, steak tips with truffle fries, Caesar salad and chicken stir- fry. Everyone loved their food and we were too full for desert. I don't think you can...go wrong. There is something for everyone!More

Free popovers, attentive staff, fair prices and a great menu. Hard to beat that combination. A nice find in downtown Gloucester.

We were treated rudely by a make waiter who take my luncheon plate off the table before I finished my meal. We waited so long to eat there and had a woman standing outside, glaring at us as we sat at the table. Calling it...in today. We left a good tip that was not deserved. How disappointed we were for such rudeness.More

Great experience, starting with walking in the door. Host, Christopher, greeted us warmly and asked a bit about who we were. Next delight was before entre was served. Popovers for "bread". Delicious! For a modest sized restaurant the menu is remarkably varied, ranging from a..."meatloaf tower" through a good variety of chicken and seafood items to a stir fry and a curry dish. Very prompt service and friendly server. All in all an excellent experience. We actually went to Passports as a second choice, since a place we often go to closed too early for us on Sunday evening. Our good luck - Passports will be our go-to in Gloucester from now on.More

Had lunch here today with my husband. What a great find! Clam chowder was so fresh and tasty! Fried scallops were sweet and cooked perfectly. The warm popovers were an unexpected treat. Friendly staff too. Highly recommend!
