About
The Gloucester House restaurant is renowned for its local lobster dishes and for the freshest North Atlantic seafood, prepared to perfection. Having been among the first to popularize fried calamari, our specialties range from award-winning clam chowder to homemade bread and cornbread, from Dottie's bourbon cake to Lily's wine list, and from Sambuca mussels to blackened haddock tacos to a fried fisherman's reuben sandwich. We always cook to order and have gluten free and vegetarian menus available, as well as children's meals. Dine full-service on our outdoor, dockside deck or eat lobsters in-the-rough on our harbor side wharf. Located on historic Seven Seas Wharf, there's something for everyone

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The location is in downtown Gloucester, not far from hotels and other amenities. The Chowder was decent, the baked fish OK, and the steak tips were surprisingly nice. Staff was friendly.

This place is a "must visit" every time I am in Gloucester! We love sitting out on the deck, watching the boats of all sorts come and go - from dories being rowed to the Lannon shoving off for a sail. Great drinks! Love the...Onion Rings and the blackened haddock tacos! You won't be disappointed!More

Every time we visit Gloucester we go for dinner here. Sadly disappointed that the dining room is not open and the only option was to “eat in the rough”. Food was meh and overpriced. View amazing as always. Talking to some of the locals we...heard that sometime in September the dining room will reopen but most, if not all, dining tables would be gone. The bar area is being extended and it appears they will be catering to the younger crowd, more of a bar business. They have also given up hosting events for weddings, baby showers, etc . And will be adding a coffee shop? Weird but ok. We won’t be back. There are too many outstanding restaurants in this seaport town.More

We had an expensive lack luster lunch at the outside area. We ordered our food- 2 clam chowders and a fried seafood plater to share. If you wanted a drink other than the limited soda or beer/wines selection in there frig upfront, you had to...order at the table. Since it turned out the drinks were over priced- we ended up going back up to order drinks at the take out. We did most of our own work- went up to order, pick up our food, went back for the extra plate we originally asked for (they gave us one that was too small, but we made do), went to get our drinks. They still had suggested tip 15-25%, which seemed high due to the lack of service provided. The chowder was okay and the fried seafood very good- whole belly clams were delicious, but there was a ton of calamari, but not a lot of the other items and the fish fell apart. There are too many other places to go in the area- I wouldn’t go here again.More

Homestyle and fresh from the sea. Daily specials and delicious, fresh foods. Lots of meeting spaces for groups and several small dining areas and a small interior bar. You will not be disappointed. Prices are $$$ to $$$$, but you will not go away hungry.

Even during COVID great place to eat. They are operating out back in the covered pavilions. Heaters kept it nice and cozy. Lobster was fantastic!

Fried fried fried! 24 dollar lobster roll... on a stale bun with day old shredded iceberg lettuce. 15 dollar salad with pre frozen bean burger on it and a package of dressing. The only thing this place has going for it is the view. They...could really have an amazing menu if they tried. Why fry the heck out of fresh ingredients?!More

Quiet Super Bowl Sunday in Gloucester. Sunset on the harbor. Alex sat us in a nice booth by the windows. Told us all the specials. Amazing seafood. The salmon and haddock were both cooked to perfection, still moist on the inside. The clam chowder here is...so good, it will cure any winter cold. The oysters were great too. We recommend the triple chocolate cake for dessert, served cold, wonderful. To top it all off are great people such as Alex, who from Hello, was all around great, from beginning to end. to sum up, great people, great food, great atmosphere , great time.More

We've driven by this restaurant when the parking lot was packed. Now we know why and we're dying to come back as soon as we finish our holiday penance of Whole30. Even though our diet is fairly restricted until the end of the month, the...staff at GH were so accommodating, offering mutiple suggestions aimed at keeping us honest on our diet. We loved every bite of the meal we split while we surveyed the menu and decided a return was in order AW30 (After Whole30). There is a separate bar area with screens if you need to keep up with your play-offs and a lovely dining room. Children are welcome and there are quiet nooks for a special night out. Our food was perfectly prepared and delicious. Salad was fresh and perfectly dressed. We had a plain salad and it was VERY good. There are choices on the salad menu that we would come back for.More

We were in town for the weekend and there were several resturants to try. We decided to try the Gloucester House and it did not disappoint. The resturant was right on the water that added to a wonderful winter ambience on a cold winter night....The food was wonderful, from the corn bread, popovers, soup and main course. No dessert as we were so full from eating everything on our plates. Dad who typically eats like a bird, eat everything on his plate and then some. We were all so happy about thatMore

We had a great early dinner. We are at the bar by choice as the lady that was bartending was so accommodating and nice. My husband had the fresh caught haddock and it was so good. I had the lobster pie which was perfect.
