Line was out the door when we arrived at 1:00 on a Saturday. Lots of people know something we didn't, that's for sure! We were in town for an overnight at a local inn and I am glad we made sure to grab small bite for lunch while we were in town. Just a pint side of fried whole belly... More

Dawn, Thank-you for your review. We appreciate it and hope you make it back someday. Did you know that we have been a family business since 1914 and that Chubby and Bessie Woodman invented the fried clam in 1916? We recently received "Best Waterfront Seafood Shack in the US" by USA Today and were also voted "Best Restaurant in NE"... More

Always love the rustic feel of Woodman's. Beautiful day to sit under the tent and look out at the scenery. Kookie setup for ordering food, then cue up at another line for drinks, back to cueing up to wait for food but even with the hassle, fish is always fresh. First fried clams of the season! The ice cream shack... More

Woodman's original owner of the fried clam! You must stop by and enjoy the original and best to offer. We have been coming here for years . It is the place all family from outside of the area ask to go! The food is fresh ! The nostalgia of the restaurant is great with vintage photos of Clambakes and the... More

Woodman's invented the fried clam so we were super excited to try it at the source. The fried clams (as well as scallops & shrimp) were fresh but the taste was so-so. They did not add any salt to the food so it was bland. It was also pricey. A mixed fried seafood plate with clams, scallops, shrimp & mostly... More

Lore says the fried clam was invented here over 100 years ago. We visited on a warm, sunny day in April for an early lunch. The portion was huge and filled with delectable fried clam strips, bellies, fresh onion rings, and fries. We enjoyed our view of the marsh and the warm sunshine at the picnic tables out back.

Went here today with some relatives. The 3 of them all ordered lobster rolls and I got a fried clam plate. These clams tasted funny compared to the ones I've had before, and the fries and onion rings tasted weird too. They must be using some bad kind of flour or frying oil. When I'm by the ocean again I'll... More

went on our annual spring trip to Woodman's this week, in Essex,Ma. Early in the season so not crowded - ordered large clams, medium, shrimp, scallops and onion rings. Total for 3 people $113.00. Food was very good - clams are small, sweet and cooked well, No sand or grit to deal with. However, prices have gone up since last... More

The best clam chowder I've had. Nothing fancy about this the restaurant , but the food was great. The lobster roll was full of meat. Delicious

I've tried many places, but never tasted a lobster roll so good. Just a warning, on summer the line is very long. Be aware and plan ahead! The rest of the year is OK. Definetly a must if you are around here!!!

I've eaten here at least twice a year for over a decade. It's a fun experience. We bring guests there for dinner after a day on the water. The fried food is moist inside, crunchy out, and fresh. It is however very expensive. For us, its never really been about the food. Its more about the experience. But don't get... More
