Clam chowder was OK but the sandwiches were surprisingly tasty. I think the bread was the key to good flavor. Vegetables looked and tasted quite fresh considering it is April in Maine. Meat was a bit skimpy but the pricing was good. IT is a fine lunch place without spending a lot of money in the city.

The bagels were amazing, as well as the huevos hamcheros breakfast burrito. The coffee was nice and hot. The staff was friendly and efficient, very in tune with the morning rush. Pleasant atmosphere and clean space.

The works serves breakfast sandwiches and lunch items including wraps, sandwiches, salads, soups, coffee, and other beverages. Walk in the front door and head straight to the back counter to place your order with the friendly and efficient staff. Turn around time is quick so you get your food fast, then pay at the register as you exit the line.... More

We stopped in for a quick brunch on Sunday. The "Works" (everything) bagels were pretty good and the lox was tasty. Not Manhattan or Brooklyn, but not bad.

Dear bigaps, Thank you so much for your review. We're glad that the bagels satisfied—we make them from scratch in small batches. We use only unbromated, unbleached flour, and our bagels are still made the old fashioned way: proofed, boiled and baked. And the lox is fresh Atlantic salmon, cold-smoked with oak and free of nitrites, artificial coloring or flavoring,... More

Had a great salt bagel and coffee for breakfast. Went back on another day for lunch tried the tai chicken wrap in a whole wheat wrap. It was ok and greasy.

Dear duane h, Thank you very much for your review. We're really happy that the bagel satisfied—they're made in small batches on site with only unbromated and unbleached flour, using the old fashioned method--proofing, boiling baking. Thanks also for the feedback on the thai chicken wrap—it helps us improve! Thank you, Becky K for The Works More

Went here on the way out of town on a Sunday. It was fairly empty. The ladies working there treated us like we were interrupting them. I ordered a couple of frozen lemonades and they gave them to me with the couple only half full. When I commented on it the explanation was that because I didn't 'add a fruit'... More

Tim -- My apologies. Staff made a mistake -- you should definitely not been given half-full cups of frozen lemonade! Please know that we are always learning, and your experience has become an example to our Portland staff of how they can do better. I do hope you give us a second chance! More

We wanted a quick lunch before a movie and The Works Bakery was the perfect choice. I had a half Thai chicken sandwich and chipotle sweet potato soup; my husband ordered a turkey wrap. Both meals were quickly prepared, reasonably priced and very fresh. We had the bonus of being able to sit outside and enjoy people watching.

Very friendly place with huge menu (maybe too large). Four different brews of coffee and large selection of juice and milk.

Accidently found this place on a walk from my hotel. Went there for breakfast that next day and was very pleased. Bagels made fresh from all natural ingredients. Egg sandwiches and spreads tasty. Coffee very good. Prices reasonable. Counter service. Order pay and pick up. Sandwich menu looks great. Will stop by again.

We walked here instead of eating at the Holiday Inn - I dislike hotel restaurants. This was great, quick breakfast bagel sandwiches. I would go back.
