Great sandwiches - made the right way. They're iconic. My father enjoyed them 40 years ago, and still requests them every time I travel to southern Maine.

I have lived in Maine and I have lived "away" since I was part of a military family. One thing our family always did was whenever we returned home to Maine we would all want our first meal to be from Amatos. Some would crave their Italian sandwich others their Meatball parmesans. Now that my children have grown and moved... More

Amato's used to me the benchmark for Italian Sandwiches, It seems the quality has dropped of over he years, this co-insides with them franchising. The ham and cheese seem to be sourced from the lowest bidder, and the tomatoes are like winter plastic type. Not horrable by any means, just not as good as they once were.

My favorite location in this region. More dine in space and less crowded layout overall. Food great as always.

There is nothing like Amato's...My friends come from NYC and as they are driving towards Maine they are calling in their order. For as long as they are here, they have an italian sandwich per day! Of course they get their pizza and calzones etc. but the italian sandwich is always on their menu! I live here, I understand.

Ok sandwich shop, living in reputation of the original Italian Sandwich maker. Others do a better job in Maine.

Located on the corner of South and Main Streets, Amato's has limited parking to the rear. Food quality is average for a local chain take-out venue. Seating is in the rear, but can be limited on weekends. Rest room is poorly maintained.

Soooooo..... here's the thing about Amatos: any person of Italian heritage or moderatley sophisticated palate will likely NOT be impressed by any of the offerings of the Amato's franchise. I'm certainly not "impressed" by it overall. The idea of an "Italian" sandwhich being made with cheap boiled ham, American cheese, a few sour pickles, green peppers (julienned), tomato slices, a...
