Excellent meal while watching the gater from our table. Prices were normal for the area and the service was great.

I brought an out of town friend to Restaurant des Familles recently. It's a beautiful out of the way place on a bayou, beautifully lit in the evening with nice ambiance outside and very nice inside with huge picture windows overlooking the bayou. I always look forward to going. I've just never been wowed by the food. I've had several... More

We ordered the chargrilled oysters dozen and the seafood platter for lunch. The oysters were fatty and tasty, but you could tell they were not attached to the original shell, sometimes there were two oysters in one shell. It didn't bother me but in other places you could tell that the oyster was freshly shucked. Overall the food and service... More

Restaurant des Familles is a very attractive venue in the middle of nowhere. I did enjoy the onion rings with remoulade sauce appetizer - very lightly coated and wonderfully crisp. That remoulade sauce was the best I've ever tasted but don't even think about asking for the recipe - I got a curt "no" from my server. My lunch entree... More

A hidden gem away from the city. If you are real foody then escape the boredom of the French quarter and come here. Start with the oysters, you will be amazingly surprised.

Husband had the shrimp po'boy and gumbo, I had the fried seafood platter (lunch menu portions). The food was good. the only downside - restaurant wasn't as clean as I expected it would be for what is considered upscale dining in this area - leaves from outside down the stairs and on carpet, a couple of flies flying around right... We (2 senior couples) came here on a recommendation by a local acquaintance as a place to eat after swamp tour. We have been to NOLA about 12 times previously and have eaten at many different restaurants. For this trip (which included Bayona's, Arnoud's) this place was our favorite. It was nice enough to eat outside, the staff was exceptional,... More

Had a FANTASTIC lunch here after a nearby bayou tour. Truly lovely spot backed up to the bayou…oh, with a rather large gator there while we ate (my though he was mechanical until he loped back underwater!). Killer red beans and rice; superb gumbo (thinner than usual); steak with wedge/blue cheese delightful too…perfectly cooked. Wines were well-chosen and superbly priced.... More

This restaurant came highly recommended, and those recommendations were correct. Great atmosphere, great service, and the food was tip top. I wanted shrimp and grits, which was no longer on their menu, and they made them for me anyway! And they were superb. My wife had Redfish Marcel and it was also outstanding. And the creme brûlée was the BEST... More

As the name implies, a family restaurant...great for lunch and dinner. Great food, bar and atmosphere that you can't beat. Everyone looking for that alligator that might show while you are eating. I eat lunch there at least once a week. Steak wedge is spectacular at a great price. Service is consistently knowledgeable, fast and friendly. Hard to get 2... More

Description
Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant's design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It's in this setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It's an experience your friends and family will not soon forget.

The 17-mile journey from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You'll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century old oak trees. The restaurant's Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was.

Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffee, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Grilled Redfish and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant will tempt even the most timid diner.

We look forward to your visit.
