We ate here (table for four) on a recent weekend evening and the place was 60% busy. The food was relatively stodgy although well priced and apparently genuinely home-made - no airs and graces, simply old-school pub food. This decor reflects this: a gastro-pub this is not; merely a country pub, with a mish-mash of relatively no frills furnishaings, including... More
Last night my husband & I went to the Alma for a meal it was a lovely buzz of people enjoying themselves laughing & chatting away to friends and family all mostly eating the famous pie , ourselves included. My husband went for his usual steak pie baked beans & sauté potatoes while I tried steak & mushroom just heaven.... More
My husband and I visited this pub today, firstly it took 15 minutes to be served I wanted the steak and ale pie which was out of stock so had to chose an alternative my husband ordered the steak pie. I then ordered the hunters chicken. After a wait of about 20-30 minutes our buzzer went off for us to... More
We have frequented this restaurant on numerous occasions and always been more than satisfied with the food. The choices are vast and the homemade foods are second to none. The cost is also very low. Would recommend this to anyone.

When the one with potatoes came up I couldn't believe it, the potatoes were old and had 'eyes' clearly visible on them, no attempt to cut them out. The chips that came... More
We were on our way home from London and decided to eat out. We had been to The Alma with friends a few years ago and decided to try it again. We again had the Steak and Stilton Pie which was full of succulent tender meat! Good value for money and lovely wholesome food.
This pub used to be a great favourite but it's now on a downward slope. Visited today 29th March 2017 for lunch. Pensioners two course lunch was always on the lunch time menu at £9.95 until 2 pm, the time has now been reduced to 12.30pm then the price increases to £10.50. We decided on a lunch time visit at...
