Two weeks ago, for an early Valentine’s Day dinner, I took my girlfriend to Dakota Restaurant. Our server, Blaine, recommended a couple of very good white wines and also the Shrimp Napoleon for our appetizer. WOW!!! The Shrimp Napoleon was absolutely stupendous. For entrées, we had the Mixed Grill (Seafood), Crab-Brie Soup, and Mirliton Casserole. The Mixed Grill and Crab-Brie... More
We went this past Saturday night, as we had not been in years. Excellent atmosphere (they added some snazzy modern art since I was last here). Great place for a special occassion or date nite. Food was very good but nothing so exceptional to put it back on our list to rush back soon. We did find the mirliton casserole... More
Friendly, attentive staff and excellent food. We came to eat but stayed longer than we would have, talking to the staff and enjoying their suggestions on specials, knowledge about wine, and attention to detail. Our meal was perfect. A very special meal indeed.
The food was good and the service was very friendly, but felt like they were rushing us out of there. The courses came out way too fast. We didn't have time to really enjoy the experience. Standout: Brie soup was a unique find on the menu. Definitely give that a try.
In a larger market, this would struggle. Solid, but not overwhelming. The Wellington was developed with a good concept, but execution was flawed. Undercooked pastry that was way too thick hurt the excellent cuts of mest inside.
We had the 25 year anniversary tasting menu. Wow, was that a great choice! The seafood beignets were outstanding. The oysters and spring roll very good. The trout and veal course were excellent. The matched wines were great. We're usually in the Covington area a couple of times a year, and we always plan for a meal at Dakota!
Most of the food was good. The only let down was the turkey/pork loin meal on Thanksgiving Day. When served, it looked like someone had dumped the leftovers together on a plate. Everything ran together and over everything else. Were the potatoes "instant"? The shrimp and mirliton Napoleon was great! Very spicy, but great. The duck gumbo was also very... More
everything is wonderful, but high cost, and worth it. from the brie soup to the lamb nachos you can get sick eating everything that you see and want when it is being carried out of the kitchen to tables. steaks and seafood and everything inbetween. Been in same place for over 20 years. owner has cooked on the food channel... More
