The MICHELIN Plate: Good cooking
Simple restaurant
A proper pub, with proper food. We deliver bold cooking with fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. A friendly, comfortable atmosphere for everybody, including the dog. The Brewers was re-opened in October 2018 out of love and determination to provide the most enjoyable eating and drinking experience possible. We are a pub, saved by the beautiful village of Rattlesden. At The Brewers we are working tirelessly to source the best local ingredients from our independent butchers, fishmongers and veg man. Head chef Dan Russell and his team then treat the amazing produce with the utmost care and respect to deliver bold, memorable flavours and experiences.

My visit was a very good experience. A warm and professional welcome from all the staff. A very good bar offering with excellent local beer choices. From start to finish we felt very looked after, but not in an overbearing way. Food was good and...enjoyable, and would recommend the lamb tartare starter!More

We visited The Brewers, on a rare date night, after seeing the website and being attracted by the menu and offering. We were prepared to pay a bit more for good quality food. The service was attentive, the staff knew what all the dishes were...and a little bit about the wines. We had asparagus and trout cerviche starters. Neither really blew our minds: small, neatly presented but no obvious fusion of flavour. Hake main had a very tasty sauce but the fish alone didn't seem the freshest, it was very small so didn't matter too much. The burger was clearly quality meat but, being lean I suppose, it was dry and crumbly. We were still hungry so ordered the cheeseplate; £9 and only 3 crackers, water biscuit, cream cracker and a cheesy one, along with very thin bits of cheese. Overall verdict disappointing. I'm sure it has the potential to be amazing and appreciate costs need to be recouped after lockdown but unfortunately, we won't be returning.More

Lovely to be back at the Brewers and eventually get to sample the stunning taster menu. Fantastic flavours and creativity and something for everyone, although star of the show for us was the beef fillet and brisket. Staff were attentive and very knowledgeable without being...to overpowering.More

High class, but in a stuffy, pretentious way. Lacklustre vegan options, for example the vegan starter was ‘chicken breast with figs, blue cheese and walnuts, just without the chicken or cheese.. Wait staff were relatively friendly but just needed some extra training (for example when...asking what the fish was in the fish and chips, which was pollock, it was described as ‘like cod but cheaper’). Service dropped off a cliff when more people turned up, so we gave up waiting to order a desert and went home for a coffee instead. Somehow there seemed a lot of staff but no one when you actually needed them. A weird, awkward atmosphere, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on why - not helped by the fact we were on a very small table for 6 people. Such a shame, and I won’t name names, but we went to another similar priced gastro pub in the local area last week, and it absolutely blew this place out of the water in every aspect. Also definitely seemed overpriced for the quality of food and service. I hate writing negative reviews, especially for local pubs, but do feel there were massive areas for improvement here, and that we were stung for the cost of what was such an average experience.More

It's great to be back - and what a way to celebrate with the Brewers' infamous tasting menu. It was glorious. We booked a 6.30 slot and leisurely grazed our way through dish after dish with the accompanying wines, finishing at about 10pm. For us,...the star of the show was the lamb tartare with the Grüner Veltliner wine pairing. White wine with lamb? Fabulous. What a treat to see a much-loved restaurant back and buzzing. Thank you.More

We've liked the Brewers Arms a lot since they started serving restaurant quality food in a lovely pub environment. Our most recent visit was still amid Covid restrictions, so we sat outside beneath canopies and watched the evening sky darken to night. And it was...lovely. The food was terrific - unpretentious, punchy flavours, elegantly served. And then there was the team looking after us. It was as if we'd never been away. Tom and the gang know their clientele. They remember which wines we like. They make eating there a real treat. So, welcome back Brewers Arms: it's good to have you back.More

Our first meal out since March 2020 and it was delicious!! The staff were all very helpful and attentive from greeting us at the garden gate, escorting us to our table and moving us to another table under cover when a shower arrived! We met...friends and all 4 of us had the roast beef which was delicious, as were the accompanying vegetables. 2 of us had the pineapple tartin and the others rhubarb cheesecake and we were delighted with our choices. The outdoor seating area has been very well laid out with quality wooden tables and chairs, large umbrellas and heaters, as well as a large gazebo with further tables and chairs. The staff carefully disinfected the furniture after guests had left. We were very happy to be back at The Brewers for our first outing and look forward to returning again soon!More
