We visited The Bear for Sunday Lunch. We were made extremely welcome, as was our dog. We were shown to seats in the restaurant area, although we had expected to be seated in the bar area. We were later joined by two or three other dogs. This pub is genuinely dog friendly. We had roast beef and roast pork, followed... More

Travelling back home and stopped to have some supper last night, hadn't been in The Bear before, really nice friendly staff, great choice of beer. We didn't have to wait long for a table, the choice on the menus are lovely. Our food was delicious, we should've said thank you to the chef ( loved the brownie )! We'll be... More

Such a disappointment as the decor is lovely but staff especially the female owner are very stuck up and rude. I heard them criticising the local customers for not purchasing food and when I asked for a Fathers Day booking, they laughed and said "that is the first". I felt it was unfriendly and unwelcoming.

We found excellent food in the Bear. Where the staff in the kitchen know how to cook and where the food is served piping hot and freshly prepared. We couldn't fault the place. We were a walk in on Friday 12th May, a table of five. The best Sirloin steak I have ever had, beautifully cooked on the chargrill. Tip,... More

Popped in here for an evening meal while staying at The Dell campsite. Good choice of food and friendly service. We got there early so hadn't booked but it got busy later. Nice beers. To be picky the staff were very keen but a little too hasty to take away p,ages or add if we wanted desserts etc. That is... More

My mum, nephew, daughter and myself cycled 2 miles to this place for Sunday lunch as a treat. What a disappointment! On arrival, we were the only people in the restaurant (no atmosphere at all). The waiting staff were attentive so no worries there. The food however....I asked for a children's roast pork as i don't eat alot....asked for some... More

Me and my partner decided to give the bear a look for Sunday roast. We didn't mind that it was a bit more expensive than you would normally pay for a Sunday roast. We ordered our drinks and before ordering our meal asked what vegetables we're on that day and was told carrots cabbage and Brockley. I ordered the beef... More

The Bear has recently been taken over by new owners. We tried it out when they first took over and was very impressed by the quality of the food. We tried it again this week after the refit. The refit has made an amazing difference, making the whole area much more open and pleasant place to be. The staff were... More

Having read about their recent refurbishment and looked at their re-vamped website, it seemed time to give them another go, after a disappointing evening a couple of years ago. Sadly, we were wrong. OK, so it was a Tuesday and the fact that we were the ONLY couple in our half of the restaurant didn't help the lack of atmosphere.... More
