Good beer but you can only fill free state growlers here so don't bother bringing in any others you have at home. Food is really good with a good selection of menu items to keep everyone happy. Friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended

Free State beer is the best. They have a lot of varieties and some great seasonal beers that are fantastic too. They have a great menu and their beer battered onion rings are to die for

Great fresh food made by an amazing chef! Great staff and atmosphere; not to mention their finely crafted beers! Always a favorite place to eat when I'm in town!

Or so says Kansas monk Brother Epps. Thanks to the founders of this brewery, brew pubs came back to KS about 20ish years ago. FS still serves some of the same dishes and same beers they did when they opened, and quality has been consistent. I know there are many good things on the menu, but I can't get past... More

I'd recommend Free State for beer. Period. The food and service felt just ordinary, as if it could be in Anytown, USA. Think heavy bar food. You'll find much better options in Lawrence.

People seem to love it. It does have good atmosphere and seems like a fun place. The food is typical bar food which is good sometimes, but easily duplicated.

The Basil Garden beer is awesome but only served during the warmer months. The food is good and reasonalbe plus there is a large variety of choices. It's a casual bar atmosphere with cute decor.

Reservations are a must. The place was crowded. I don't usually drink beer. Just not my "cup of tea." But this place brews many kinds of beer, from IPAs to the stout that I liked. They know their beer and will talk about it, the process, the varieties, the romance of each. It is a pleasure listening to a staff... More

We chose this restaurant based on the reviews and had a nice dinner. The best of our food was the onion rings. The waiter kindly suggested a half order which was plenty for two people with our other food. Service was excellent and beer choices interesting.

I really wanted to enjoy this meal as the restaurant was so well reviewed online. Unfortunately the medium-rare steak I ordered was well done and the mashed potatoes were so salty I couldn't eat them. The entree was gorgeous though and the staff were fabulous. I did get a deduction from my bill for the steak because I chose to... More
