We love this restaurant mainly because of the gregarious owner. It is always good food and in summer their patio can't be beat. Try the chocolate cake for dessert. It is out of this world deliciously decadent.

We were pleasantly surprised by El Patio! It is not your typical Mexican restaurant. The seating inside was great for date night and the food was delicious. Large portions, too! I had the black bean flautas which I'd highly recommend. Husband had the chicken fajitas which he would recommend. Cheese dip and salsa was good, could be a little more... More

This is a nice restaurant to visit with a fun atmosphere and interesting paintings / ornaments all over the place. The food is very good but could use a bit more effort to better reflect New Mexico and Santa Fe cuisine. For example, it does not offer the choice of green or red chili sauce which it typically New Mexican.

El Patio has been in business for many, many decades. That alone says a lot about a place. While the food is not to everyone's taste, there are a lot of fans that have kept them going so long. The food is more Southwestern than Tex-Mex that is common. For example, my favorite is blue corn enchiladas. You don't find... More

My brother and sister- in- law took us to El Patio after a day outside on 80 degree high humidity weather day. Got there at 6pm on a Saturday and got seated on the patio immediately. The service was outstanding!! So good that we tipped much more than normal. The chips and salsa are there to just keep your hands... More

A local off the beaten track restaurant that has been there for years is the house known as El Patio. A favorite among locals this is one of the bucket list places to go when in Des Moines. Brook and Becky provide great food at reasonable prices. My favorite it the Reicharito named after Des Moines clothier, Bill Reichart. It's... More

Patio dinner. A bit crowded so conversation had to muted, no privacy. Flies, bees. Noisy kids. Great Margie's and food. Blue corn shells really good. Chips n salsa right on!

This place was filthy. Nothing has been cleaned in years. Crust on the table. They only give one a fork, no spoon or knife. Chips were salty ,salsa bland from a can. Very bad service. They gave me an order without the salad, the enchiladas were not what I had ordered. The food was bland, over cooked, brown and cheesy.... More

I hadn't been to El Patio in years, and I wondered how it had survived the influx of Mexican Restaurants over the past several years. We went on a Tuesday evening with a large party, and none of us were disappointed. Brook and his family continue to serve good Mexican fare, and they provide great service.

I am not sure why this place has been open for all the years it has been in business. I swear they use artificial cheese and the sauces are not that good. Service is pretty much like they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. Not a fan. Sorry.
